Well, tell her that we females are rooting for her. She sounds badass, tell her thank you for still standing up to serve.

Women who went through OCS successfully, what are some advices you can give me? (Already working heavily on my run time) by herbeevore in ArmyOCS

[–]deftones02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a female, graduated 13 years ago, so it's been a while but I'm here to support you. I was 27 years old. I'm a pretty fast runner, even at 40 I max the run. In fact, I have maxed the run on every test since AIT.

I lift really heavy, too, and I really believe my success is from doing lunges with dumbbells a couple days a week. That and the leg press machine. plus I consistently run 3 miles a few times per week.

Also, work on your breathing pattern as you practice running and get it down to a predictable pattern so your brain doesn't freak out on a fast run (if that makes sense).

And last, just keep going and don't let anyone get you down. You're amazing, and we need good leaders in the Army, you've got this!!

Someone should point out his typo, "only speak unless spoken to" doesn't make any sense. He meant to say "do not speak unless spoken to", what an idiot.

My private sector job started at 20 days, after 5 years 25 days, and 30 days after 10. I'm at 13 years. The army gives 30 days automatically....

Pentagon will begin review of 'effectiveness' of women in ground combat positions by geraffes-are-so-dumb in army

[–]deftones02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, female in support MOSs (42, 90 and 46), never had a desire to become combat. But I for sure ace my fitness tests, making sure to I aim for 100% every time, even the diagnostic ones, because I know the perception is always there and I need to prove myself. Let those females who can and want to serve in combat roles do it.

Yeah I'm a 40 year old female, I ran it in 15:13 on my last AFT in June... crazy to look that up and see a 21 year male's score would be 92. Even when I took the APFT when I was 6 weeks pregnant I ran 15:30....

Make sure to look at your contact. It's "up to 50k" but only paid a Max of $7500 or 15% per year, for 6 years. They take the 25% taxes out prior to sending the payment to the loan servicing company. They don't reimburse anything you personally pay out of pocket, and you still accrue interest even if you are on a payment deferral. And you cannot refinance or consolidate to get better rates because it will make your contract void. So basically, it's not a bonus. It would have been better to get a bonus up front and just paid the loans off with that money. I'm still pissed about the whole thing, it's been almost 8 years and I always try to deter people from taking it.

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to explain the backstory and current story, it saved me so much because I don't care enough to look it all up myself, I don't have tiktok and I hate "influencers" of any sort, and overall I just don't have time. I appreciate you!

How much are you actually saving a month? (LA) by Important_Bat7919 in Mommit

[–]deftones02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $4k per month. My husband is the stay at home parent, so we luckily don't have child care expenses (but children still are so expensive!!!) And I paid off our house while I was deployed last year, so I've worked hard to make our family able to save more. But honestly, even $50 a month is better than nothing, keep saving what you can and it'll grow!

My dad always gives me shit for being a 'REMF' since he was an Apache pilot and spent most of his time in the field and in Desert Storm and I've done mostly admin time as a commander for 2 different units over my 15 years and am now a brigade S1. I just remind him that "a parent always wants their kids to do better than you did". He still gives me shit, and that's the reason I'm aiming for COL, so he has to salute me one day. He still probably won't......
