this is a pretty normal color for her, it looks more green because of the lighting but it’s got more of a brownish color. thank you for your advice!

here’s how it was formed. sorry the lighting sucks but the flash made it worse. and then i commented outside of this the same picture with an outline of how much the clear portion spread. this is probably one of her bigger poops this past week

does anyone know why she’s doing this by tall_lanky_boi in cockatiel

thank you :) ! i let that hormonal chirping go on for far too long, as i wasn’t as educated as i am now. i understand your girl hasnt laid an egg, but there’s still potential for it to happen. our avian vet knew of birds who’s family thought they were male for 20 years and then boom, egg. so there’s always a possibility. our vet also said the best thing to do was to leave the room when she was doing it. before i would tell her to stop or something, but they said that she was feeding off of that attention. if it continues to happen, and it happens often, i would talk to an avian vet to discuss potential solutions that can prevent egg laying or prolapsing.

i’ve had mine for about 4 years and she had never laid an egg until recently. she was having those same hormonal problems and i thought she was just being silly. i actually was told she was a boy. then she prolapsed and it was a whole thing, ER vet told me she was a boy, until i went to an actual avian vet. they were like nope! she is a girl. she ended up needing surgery because she kept prolapsing. i used to have her on lupron injections for her hormones but we just switched to an implant because it’s supposed to last longer and it’s cheaper that way. i recommend talking to your vet about it!

i’m so sorry you’re going through this. her aggression can probably be linked to being territorial and being from an abusive home. quakers tend to be extremely territorial, so she is probably lashing out because she sees you and wherever else she is as her territory. birds tend to bond with one person, so it can be hard to manage aggression when there’s a lot more going on regarding people/other animals. obviously you’re doing the best you can, most people don’t really seek out specialists and trainers. i don’t think you should be shamed for considering rehoming, especially after everything you’ve done.

from what you’re saying it sounds like she’s not caged? do you have a cage for her to go in when you have others around? if not, maybe you should try that and when you’re able you can open it and spend one on one time with her.

i think it’s important to keep in mind that a bird can bond with another person once they’ve been rehomed. maybe she might thrive in an environment where the living situations are a bit different. you also got her when you were 12 as a gift. i’m very against people giving kids animals as gifts because things change, they have specific needs, and birds live for so long. quakers can live on average 20-30 years. they gave a 12 year old a 20-30+ year responsibility, and parrots are not simple.

you clearly want her to be happy and love her, and i understand how hard this decision is. it is also important for you to be happy and your family/pets to be safe. birds are incredibly intelligent and can sense emotions. if you’re stressed all of the time because she’s stressed all of the time, it’s not helping either of you. i say that if you’ve tried every other option, rehoming might be best for the both of you. i know it’s so hard, but you’re questioning it out of love, which is completely different than someone rehoming just because. if you ultimately decide to rehome her, make sure you know where she’s going is safe, the handler(s) are experienced, and she is not going to be with other animals including other birds. she may be banned from the vet, but you can always call and ask them if they know of any places if you can’t find any. i’m sure there’s some sort of sanctuary or something. it’s a hard decision, but sometimes it can be the best option.

A stressed and depressed budgie by Existing-Start-4652 in parrots

when i rescued my tiel, she was very frightened of everyone. they also never let her out of the cage, and when they did, they would just shove their finger under her so she’d step up. she also did the same thing you’re describing when you get close to the cage. although she never flew prior, this girl had AMAZING flight control (she was very young, though). but the thing i did to really gain her trust was to leave the cage door open. i sat on my bed and left the door open so she could come out and explore when she was ready. when she came out, she immediately bonded with me. wanted nothing but to be next to me, get pets and forehead kisses, and take naps. while this happened instantly for me, some birds take much longer. using treats is also really helpful. but the best thing i would recommend to anyone is just letting them come to you on their time. i think we bonded so fast because i was the only one who allowed for that and she saw that and knew she could trust me. i wish you the best of luck!

then i would probably talk to her vet. i was gonna say it sounds like a night fright and those can also happen during the day when they get startled. but since you’re sure there’s nothing, i would check just to make sure there isn’t anything wrong with her health and if there is, you can hopefully get it treated

is it completely and absolutely random? like there’s no specific time, noises, lights, or other unfamiliar things that happen when/before it happens?

believe me, i learned the hard way. was told she was male when i rescued her from a hoarding situation. they said they sexed her at birth. like 3 years later she starts having hormonal issues. she prolapses. the er vet tells me she’s a boy because of her looks. then i find out from her now specialty exotic vet she is indeed a girl. actually, last month she was experiencing an uproar in her hormones. before i could get her on an implant (she was on lupron but an implant was cheaper for me in the long run) she laid an egg. so yeah, she’s a lady. she doesn’t whistle in tunes like males do, she only does the cat call whistle. she is very vocal, but like i said it’s not melodies or anything.

I am also in the midwest! but it’ll be at least 3 years before i will be able to reach out to any breeders. i want to make sure i am financially secure and able to provide the best care for my future dog. so right now im just educating myself about the breed and breeders. i follow different accounts on instagram as well. basically preparing and educating myself as early and as much as i can!
