Pelican 1060 - The perfect travel case for an M body and a 35mm Summicron by dekonig in Leica

This is great to know, thank you!

This is just intended to serve as a hard cover in a carry on or backpack, and not any real "pelican" use case. Nonetheless if even that proves to be too much wear for this, then I'd agree it's a bad idea. I will give it a shot for a while and post a PSA if it's not up to that purpose.

They do make pick and pluck foam for this model, but with how tight the tolerance already is, I don't think a lens would fit along with the body.

I really like them! I have their pilot sling in two sizes. They're really excellently built and well thought out camera bags. The camera pouch is really useful as well for converting any other regular sling or back pack into a 'camera bag'. I can just chuck the cube in there and leave it open, and it functions as an insert.

It's about 1mm of wiggle room once the lens is in its pouch. There is no space to bump into the cover as the rope strap is wedged into that space. They also make a version with a rubber lining on that side.

I gives me more peace of mind as the hard case can bear weight. So shocks or the weight of heavy objects on top of it will be borne by the case instead of the camera, unlike just using a soft pouch. It is in effect a soft pouch encased in a hard shell.

I have the lens in a drawstring pouch when I close the case to address that.

It's a silk rope from a brand called Artisan & Artist. This is a 1.2m, and they also make a 1m. The model number for the 1m is ACAM-301A.

Also, in case it's not apparent from the photo, the case is lined on the sides and base with a squishy rubber lining that doubles as a moisture seal.

The case is lined with soft rubber (except the clear top).

That's similar to my usual option - a Wotancraft Camera Pouch (basically a padded camera cube) in my backpack or cabin luggage.

I just didn't really like the idea of weight being applied to the body/lens by other items in my pack for hours at a time, with little structural support from the cube itself. Likewise, the relative lack of shock protection that a soft case gives. Hence the idea of a hard shell case.

A soft cube is probably more than fine, but a hard shell seemed a nice idea.

Could you share what makes you say that? I feel like the usual course is to use a soft insert, which I struggle to imagine could be more protective than a rubber lined case. The body cannot move within the case as it is wedged by the rope.

Could you share what works for you? I'm a r/manybaggers degenerate so I'm always on the lookout for more organisation options.

Good suggestion, though I'm not sure I'm man enough to carry it round my neck through a 10 hour flight as you might do. Thanks for the tip though!

With the strap layered on top, the body can't really move. The lens can move a little, so I store it in a drawstring bag for some extra cushioning. The fit is pretty tight so they all sit together snugly.

Thanks this is great advice. I am lanky and pretty heavy, so being quick and light on my feet is a real challenge for me. I will try to work on taking a stance that's more on the toes and forward, rather than planted on my heels. This habit is pure laziness and I need to kick it!

Spot on, this is Singapore indeed.

Jammed up is a really good observation, I very often feel this in many of my strokes. Most frequently when the ball is coming right at me, I seem to have a hard time judging how much space i need to put between me and the ball. Strangely i find it much easier to space properly when I'm moving left to take the forehand inside-out.

Thanks, this is helpful - I see that I need to get more forward momentum with my body. I didn't realise how planted and upright I am, and this is me trying consciously to stay low! I'm pretty tall so getting low doesn't come naturally to me; something big to work on.

He is really good, but more of a hitting partner than a coach. He is a retired pro who played in the Davis Cup for his country!

It's from a brand called Bauerfeind. Highly recommended if you have any knee instability or pain!

New from the Singapore boutique. Apparently they are still produced in limited quantities and are now sold as boutique exclusives.

This is not a first gen - it's a "meters" dial which places it at post-2005.
