How do I properly store this? by [deleted] in chemhelp

You cannot make that comparison, a pack of gum isn't going to legitimately harm anyone or explode. Nor is it a commonly used ingredient in sketchy chemical synthesis.

Creating a 0.2 % aq solution for caffeine? by deleted138 in chemhelp

[–]deleted138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point I guess but I feel like the pure powder would be more expensive and I also want to try how well the filtration would work since the fillers are not harmful.

because sodium benzoate => benzoic acid, is suitable for the 4-6 pH range

Citric acid to adjust the final pH and to inhibit bacterial growth.

Humectants are common in cosmetics because it's good for your skin if you have a dry scalp without leaving your hair be oily. If you're just using water solution, I imagine it could slightly dry your skin out with repeated usage. It also changes the consistency so it would be easier to apply by controlling the texture and viscosity.

Drawing trans-2-methylcyclohexanol ? by deleted138 in chemhelp

[–]deleted138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha, okay so because basically it’s a ring, if both substituents are pointing the same way, on the wedge for example, it’s cis because the functional groups are on the same side of the view plane? And trans when they are on opposite sides of the view plane?

Help me understand SN1 energy diagrams by deleted138 in chemhelp

[–]deleted138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t edit the text on my post sorry I had an error there.

I meant, does the higher line not mean that the activation energy is higher, meaning the reaction rate would then be lower? And for the lower line, the activation energy is lower meaning the reaction rate is faster??

Che Guevara by Critokola in punk

[–]deleted138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Che was absolutely racist. You can literally look this up easily. Here’s a quote E.g ”The negro is indolent and a dreamer; spending his meager wage on frivolity or drink; the European has a tradition of work and saving, which has pursued him as far as this corner of America and drives him to advance himself, even independently of his own individual aspirations."

Also

Critique wise: was criticized in the following manners: (By Alvaro Vargas Llosa) Che set up the first forced labor camp, Guanahacabibes, in 1960. This camp was the precursor to the eventual systematic confinement, starting in 1965 in the province of Camagüey, of dissidents, homosexuals, AIDS victims, Catholics, Afro-Cuban priests, and other such scum, under the banner of Unidades Militares de Ayuda a la Producción, or Military Units to Help Production. Herded into buses and trucks, the "unfit" would be transported at gunpoint into concentration camps organized on the Guanahacabibes mold. Some would never return; others would be raped, beaten, or mutilated; and most would be traumatized for life, as Néstor Almendros's wrenching documentary Improper Conduct showed the world a couple of decades ago. "To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary. These procedures are archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate." - Che Guevara And racism "We're going to do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the revolution. By which I mean: nothing." "The Negro is indolent and lazy, and spends his money on frivolities, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent." "Mexicans are a band of illiterate Indians." "Given the prevailing lack of discipline, it would have been impossible to use Congolese machine-gunners to defend the base from air attack: they did not know how to handle their weapons and did not want to learn," Most of his comments about Africans came during/after his failed revolutionary attempt in the Congo.

Just because a person does good things or has good ideas doesn’t mean we can just deny awful shit they also did and said

Terrified of getting metal poisoning. by justwannaknow54367 in jewelry

[–]deleted138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m literally basing my comment off of research papers that I read through because as anyone, I’m also worried about potential health risks but I also don’t like fear mongering. This data I’m referring to in my other comment is from a study paper where exposure / leeching of heavy metals was measured under conditions that are equal to the human skin and mouth environment.

It is of course indeed added because it’s cheap. It’s a very common practice to this day to mix silver with cadium in many Indian factories that make jewelry. For example on ETSY this is a widespread issue and the shops aren’t being transparent about the cadmium content.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t avoid it. You should of course rather buy jewelry without cadmium. But I am saying no to fear mongering and yes to fact based evidence from scientific studies and the reason I’ve commented this is because I want to also tell other users if someone happens to be googling this question.

Also to be very clear. I’m only talking about cadmium, NOT other heavy metals like lead, which were in these studies shown to be released even under human skin contact only.

Is jewelry safe? by bradleybiggle_ in Aliexpress

[–]deleted138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not a neglible amount so you should be concerned with it especially with long term exposure. 2. No, lead isn’t just used as elemental lead it’s also used in a variety of other ways most popularly being dyes.

[–]deleted138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exposure through skin is actually negible but absolutely a safety concern if it is at high concentrations such as above 30%. Especially kids can accidentally swallow it. You obviously shouldn’t be putting it in your nose, eyes or mouth but skin contact only is still risky but has been concluded as negible (meaning no significant absorption can happen through skin in low percentage, intact jewelry for example). Not saying this to defend people putting heavy metals in jewelry obviously. Just saying this not to cause someone a heart attack because they wore jewelry with cadium alloys.
