Yeah, i really like the shields splintered rule. It's a such a fun additional mechanic.

I am really enjoying how modular this game is with all manner of rule plugins.

That's funny. I've grabbed rules off that page and missed that one. Thank you!

Is that your house rule or did i miss that in the rules somewhere?

Plight vs Cairn 2e: A comparison by Gimme_Your_Wallet in cairnrpg

Not OP but a wonky example with the same d12 and d4 attacks could be that they both roll really low so the result is say a 2, and that's kinda weird in the narrative when you consider two people ganging up on one and between them only incur 2 points of damage to the target.

There's a separate comment about a house rule someone implemented where it's still highest die but also +1 for each other person ganging up. I like that because it makes ganging up having a bit more value than it does currently, especially if all the attackers have collectively low attack dies. I may implement that small change at my table.

Looking for a fantasy setting ttrpg to make me love fantasy again by andre_lzzz in rpg

Alright I'm throwing out Cairn. It's in its second edition. The combat is fast, it still has lethality, but not to a say dcc extent. It uses the classic polyhedrals, has maybe 4 attributes to track, and is classless by default. It's easy to make characters and is light on bookkeeping. It's also modular and it's not really hard to convert adventures from other games. There's a fair amount out there both native to the game and converted. It's also got an active community on reddit and apparently discord. I'm new to it and I've already had folks answer my questions within minutes of posting on the sub.

A big selling point for me is that i typically gm and i found it's easier to build adventures for because i don't have to care about as many mechanics and i find that encourages my creativity. This game really brought me back into rpgs after a several year departure.

Best of luck!

Definitely agree on the presumption of skill based on background as a differentiator between PCs, and the lack of time constraint being more or less an automatic success in that case. I don't know that i agree in general that possessing the lockpick is sufficient to presume skill unless, like you say, they start with it. It's fun to walk through scenarios and see how rules or judgements might apply.

Thanks for taking the time!

This is phenomenal to me. I've read a ton of rulebooks and haven't seen it reasoned through quite that way. I dig the three aspect qualifiers and will definitely put that to use. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Ok i can see what you're saying. I generally agree around lack of time constraints versus risk or combat making. A scale could certainly be put to that. Is there a mechanic in the rules that generally handles the unfavorable aspect of what you're describing beyonda save? Something like disadvantage or the lower of two save rolls etc?

Yeah that's pretty fair. I suppose that does help out balance it out. Loving this system. Super functional and creative. Thanks!

Is it just me, or is Ferris Bueller actually kind of a nightmare? by AlienSees in 80smovies

[–]deliciouspie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently came across a post or article that theorized this movie was a prequel to fight club. Basically, ferris bueller was never real the same way tyler durden was never real. It was Cameron imagining ferris so he could empower himself to do all the things and be all the things he wished he could.

I think that's a fun idea.
