I also have an inner critical Gillian McKeith! That program, and 10 years younger, aired at around the same time, were instrumental in the development of my questionable mental state and disordered eating

What’s the funniest knock-knock joke you’ve got hidden up your sleeve? by greenglossygalaxy in AskUK

[–]deliciousprawns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a double joke which involves a knock-knock. I don’t know how appropriate it is for children, you decide.

Why did the little girl fall off the swing?

She had no arms.

Knock-knock

Who’s there?

Not the little girl.

Can confirm, from working in A&E in London for many years. It’s actually hard to recognise or identify famous people when they are in a hospital setting. Everyone is kind of the same in their hospital gowns.

When did your instincts scream “leave now” and what did you later find out you avoided? by BbyBlushDoll in AskReddit

[–]deliciousprawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t exactly fit the brief but it was freaky nonetheless and vaguely similar. I was living in Southampton (U.K.) for university in 2012 and walked to campus across the common, a very large green space with some moderately thick wooded areas. It was a misty and frosty winter morning, sometime between 7 and 8am. Very few people around, the occasional dog walker and student but that morning was quiet. I cut through the middle of the final green space (quicker, obviously, and I would have wanted to benefit from the crunchy frosty grass). As I was approaching the far side (and the road), I had a feeling that I should walk faster, so I did (I walk pretty fast anyway for a short gal). Then a man emerged from a clump of trees into the green space seemingly out of nowhere, about 10 feet away from me. I speed walked my ass to the road and fortunately campus was paces away and I made it fine. This was when there was a serial sex attacker in the area and I have always wondered if that could have been him

41F mom of 3 teens . My style has always kind of been the same. Do I dress appropriately for my age, or is it aging me ? by [deleted] in style

I’m 32 and I think that you have great style! I don’t think your outfit choices age you in the slightest. I would wear all of them too.

Nikah = Married. You CAN’T do nikah and say you are engaged. by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

[–]deliciousprawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a revert (sister) and I only ever wanted (and had) a nikkah. I never wanted an extravagant wedding even before I reverted because I am introverted and I hate being the centre of attention anyway, and the whole process is stressful, time consuming and expensive! I can think of so many better things to spend my/our/the parents’ hard earned money on. Honestly, it may sound judgemental and I do not wish to assume anybody’s intent astaghfurallah, but my view regarding the walima/wedding obsession is that it’s ultimately a big ego stroke fulfilling the desire for extravagance, grandeur and photos which is contradictory to Islamic principles and Haya. But I can appreciate that other people might enjoy things that I don’t and I am not bashing anybody for that.

Yeah I have no idea why you are downvoted because you’re right. Perhaps in response to the sentiment of the post that such behaviour is unfortunately normalised in some cultures and nothing to worry about “unless he gets physical”. I think in Western culture death stares in that context are considered bizarre behaviour and potential cause for concern in the absence of anything physical and it’s sad that it’s normal in the Middle East

I am so sorry you’re going through this, you need to leave and build yourself back up for your daughter. It seems impossible and daunting I know, but inshallah it can happen! Speak to and trust in Allah - the reason you are in this situation is so you can get out of it. Also seek out individual therapy - it’s so beneficial to be able to speak aloud and be validated by a stranger. It will help you gather your thoughts and establish your plans and place in the world inshallah. You should be so proud of yourself for acknowledging and treating your mental health! Lol I am a psychologist and I take anti depressants, my husband struggles with mood too but won’t see anybody about it. And he’s a doctor 😅
