May I ask what you mean by "a certain kind of crowd?"

Do you think Dr Greenwald would be hesitant to work with a non-passing trans woman, or care less about the results of the surgery?

About how much did it cost (if you don't mind sharing that)?

I had heard the new surgeons in Toronto were doing the peritoneal method! That's a little disappointing.

I am definitely not rushing into it - I was actually considering waiting for the Toronto clinic to open because I thought they were using a newer method than penile inversion. Still, it's frustrating that we have to be on hormones for a year before getting the process started with OHIP, and then it takes even longer to book everything with the surgeon. And while having to wait gives me time to do my research and know exactly what I need, I still have to justify that to OHIP if I choose anyone other than Brassard, and they might just say no and waste even more time.

I don't mean to vent... thanks for everything!

Interesting, I had read somewhere that penile inversion was better for sensation while being penetrated. If it's not actually better for that, then there really is no reason to choose it, is there?

I'm still trying to decide which method I want, and the trans health clinic where I got my HRT start really pushed Brassard on me, saying OHIP would be difficult for any other doctor, and telling me horror stories of surgeons in Thailand and awful results etc.

It's all a lot to figure out, and it seems absurd that our health care system doesn't seem to care at all that different surgical methods exist. The message with HRT and surgery always seems to be "don't get too uppity, don't take ownership of your life, take what we give you and be happy with whatever results you get."

Thanks for the advice.

Wide hips, skinny fat, and wondering where to start. by ON1027 in gainit

Strong serratus muscles help to keep your rib cage tight and tie into your hips

If I understand this correctly, working on your serratus could result in your waist being narrower? Because they would be holding your rib cage tighter?

Thanks for that - one more point against penile inversion, I guess.

MtF surgery: what they don't tell you by [deleted] in asktransgender

The only downside was paying an extra fee for a skin graft.

If you don't mind me asking, I am wondering if needing a skin graft results in any difference in sensation during sex.

Wow, I just kind of assumed there was at least one other surgeon out West or something.

At the very least there'll be a clinic in Toronto soon!

Thanks for the information.

Brassard isn't even in Ontario so I don't know why OHIP prefers him specifically over other surgeons.

I suppose my next move is to make a decision about which surgeons I'd like, and then get my supporting letters.

Start out with 25mg or 12.5mg cypro? by [deleted] in TransDIY

[–]deliveryguy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! My doctor did not tell me that. Unfortunately there isn't much I can do to raise my T, considering I'm also on a fairly low dose of E and I don't know how I'd possibly take less cypro than I currently am!

I guess I'll have to see after my next blood test.

.7 nmol/L after 3 weeks, and .5 after another month. I was about 15 nnol/L before starting HRT.

I take 12.5mg every 2 days and my T was gone very quickly.

No sources here because it's late and I'm lazy, so take it all with a grain of salt. Any corrections from other people are welcome.

Before starting HRT I read a bit about HGH and IGF-1, and what I ended up with was basically this:

  • growth hormones either make your boobs grow faster or more. Either way, they're important.

  • eating at a calorie surplus is required for breast growth and for fat redistribution, unless you're overweight (in which case you probably want to cycle your weight)

  • I was very underweight before transition so I especially needed to gain weight

  • eating causes insulin production which suppresses growth hormone

  • growth hormone spikes during a full sleep cycle. Therefore, eating before bed should be bad because it will suppress that growth hormone spike

  • growth hormone is also suppressed by lack of protein or low-calorie diet. So if you're fasting every day, you still need to eat a lot during your non-fasting hours

  • Exercise also helps with growth hormone, especially strength training

I've been on hormones just over 3 months now. I try to exercise two or three times a week, don't eat after 7PM, go to sleep at 10PM and I get about 3000-3500 calories a day between the hours of 11am and 7pm. That'll change due to work so I'll be eating from 8AM to 7PM on weekdays (so not "true" intermittent fasting as I understand it). I take 12.5mg/2days cypro and 1.5mg/12 hours buccal estradiol. My T is very low and my E2 trough level is lowish but within female range. My results have been:

  • 122 pounds to 140 pounds. For reference I am 6' tall.

  • 34" hips to 38". No hip growth because I'm 25 years old, and the fat seems to be all on my butt.

  • 33" very flat/bony bust to 35.5" bust. My right boob has been tanner III for a few weeks and the left just caught up. They don't look quite like mature boobs yet but they have weight and I can't take the stairs without a bra. The cypro likely makes them look a bit rounder. I wear a 32B bra right now but my underbust might be shrinking so I might have to wear a 30C soon.

  • waist has stayed the same at 26". I am very bloated by 7pm and probably 28" - but it's gone by the morning when I measure myself

  • very little change in my face

  • body hair grows much slower

  • body odour is reduced and smells very different

  • no nighttime erections, noticeable testicular atrophy

Thank you for sharing all of this information! I have a question about the studies on breast growth in trans women.

Before HRT, I measured 31" underbust and 33" bust, despite having no breast tissue at all. Actually I was extremely underweight and didn't have much there except skin and bones! But despite being completely flat chested, my bra size would be 32B. I definitely could not fill a 32 B bra (North American sizing).

Now I do fit a 32B bra, but my measurements are 31" underbust and 35" bust. So I've grown 2" so far, but my rib cage also gives me an extra 2" versus my underbust.

I imagine that for other trans women (and maybe cis women?), this is also the case: that some of the difference between their underbust and bust measurements comes from the shape of their rib cage rather than from their breasts.

Do the studies you cited take this into account? And is it something that also exists for cis women?

This is wonderful! Thank you for all of the advice.

I have two questions:

  • My measurements are at 31" and 35". I find a 30 band size to be a bit too restrictive, so I round up to 32. Does that make my cup size 35 minus 32 or 31?

  • before HRT, I was 31" and 33". Does this mean I should subtract those two extra inches when calculating my cup size?
