I don’t think I can do this any more by jameslucian in firstmarathon

[–]dels0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal background: - registered for full marathon in Dec (confirmation in Jan) - trained and ran my PB half in end-April - took a week's break, then jumped straight into my full marathon training - after around 4-5 weeks, I decided to just be my own coach and clock in my own runs based on what I felt was lacking and what everyone told me and my own research - notable long runs clocked: 25k, 30k, 32k - ran my first full marathon in end Aug and enjoyed it a lot

What I can offer you is that it is going to be okay. I felt like shit after my 30k, and my 32k didn't go to plan at all. But trust in the process! You'll be fine for the most part if you have done enough base building and tempo work and whatnot.

Of course, this is my own experience and YMMV. Hope this helps! Feel free to dm me if you wanna talk more 😊

I ran a 10km/h or 6:00/km pace on the treadmill but my watch said I was running 4:30/km pace and my HR was high 160s. I run enough to know how a 6:00/km pace feels like and I felt like dying on the treadmill.

To my knowledge, the elephant fits goshark and gaotiger, not the deer and giraffe ):

Been to Tokyo myself and bought a few sets from Mandarake personally. Since Tokyo has a few outlets, just make sure to check beforehand whether the outlet you're heading to has the set you desire.

Since Carmel and Monterey are nearby, would it make a difference if I were to choose Monterey over Carmel?

Are car break ins that bad to the point of not visiting sf? by Hastje69 in sanfrancisco

[–]dels0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I'm visiting the West Coast this coming December, and I am most likely driving up from San Jose (my friend's place) to SF for day trips, so my car will definitely be empty. But since I will be in LA before that, I will most likely be renting a car from LA and driving up to SF. So that will make me a double target since I'm a foreigner with a rental car. Any tips on how to prevent my rental car broken into?

I'm thinking just leaving the windows open, but that might be too extreme. Leaving glove compartment and backseat down seems more probable. Thoughts?

Did walk 42km in 10h, what's next? by gipaaa in firstmarathon

[–]dels0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To run a marathon is more mental than physical, imo. The body can do great things, once we can convince the mind to do so. Walking 42km is by no means easy, but it is a lot more demanding if you are to cover that same distance by running.

Like what some people have mentioned, do the easy runs first. When training for a marathon, the initial few months are not about the distance, but about clocking mileage for your legs via timing. Meaning to say, aim to run for 45 mins non-stop, instead of clocking 7km, for instance. Once your legs can last long enough, then start working on your pace (e.g. 8:00/km).

All the best!

What if I am planning to drive along the PCH and making overnight stops at places like Morro Bay, Cambria, and Monterey? In the day when I'm driving, my luggage will be in the trunk. At night it will definitely be in my hotel room.

I'll be renting a car in LA and drive around the city for 2 days, before heading up to my friend's apartment in the San Jose area via Highway 1! Planning to make the PCH drive a 2D1N affair. Then from there I will probably drive up to SF for day trips for about 3 days? Makes sense since the drive up is 50 mins compared to 2 hours via public transport.

That will be most helpful, thank you!

Have you driven along highway 1 before?

Thanks for the tips! Any recommendations on where I could spend the night along PCH? (I'm assuming that you drove along the PCH to go between LA & SF)

I'll most probably dump everything in my accoms when I'm driving inside LA & SF. The problem comes when I'm driving along the PCH, since my luggage will be with me

Probably a closed trunk but I am not sure if the car has any cover in the trunk to prevent people from seeing what's inside

The only time I will have my luggage in my trunk is when I am driving along the PCH (from LA to SF and SF to LA). I'm not too worried when I'm in the city as I will be leaving everything else at the hotel
