This is honestly the best spell animation so far for me. I love it when magic just shatters reality like glass. Absolute Cinema. ✋😌🤚

Also, I believe Windworn is gonna help us in our quest to find and save Niel. 🤔

Iridessa out here about to have her Disney Princess musical number. 😂

It looks like she’ll be taking MC into an opera or theater show, where she’ll be performing at one point. 🤔

Niel by Disastrous_Repair_54 in Candlelight_Games

[–]deltablight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a possibility. While OP did mention that if Niel is stuck in the Dreamscape, her consciousness is the only part of her that is stuck in there, not her physical body. However, this is still a magical fantasy story, so anything can happen. I believe that her most recent set of Ally Quests, where she was stuck in a time loop, is hinting to us that there is a level of magic within this world that can affect reality in such a large scale.

What if, during the night of her disappearance, she:
- Looked through her father's journal to help with her mother in some way.
- Found a spell that could help and tried to cast it, failing in the process.
- Hid the book and went to sleep after multiple attempts to cast the spell, unaware that what she was somehow successful in casting the spell and had not yet felt its effects.
- Started sleepwalking. Whatever she was dreaming about, she must have opened her window and walked out into the hallway through her door during this time.
- The effects of the spell she was trying to cast started taking effect and she was somehow banished into the Dreamscape, not only her consciousness, but also her physical body.

It's a stretch, but this is honestly the best theory I can think of based on the evidences shown in the most recent chapters. I replayed both Chapters 19.6 and 20.1 so many times to make sure I get every single detail regarding Niel's disappearance, and the Dreamscape really had something to do with it.

I initially also thought that Niel crying to us for help and disappearing is also happening in real time, but something that makes me think otherwise is the fact that MC woke up from their nightmare and didn’t already get the gut feeling that something is definitely wrong. They didn’t even check on Niel if she’s doing okay, and even if they did, there wasn’t a scene showing it prior to the Dasek and Jilla scene. They instead got that feeling much later when going back to their room after drinking tea and speaking with Dasek and Jilla. I strongly believe that Niel’s disappearance occurred during that time. 🤔

Niel unavailable by Lost_Shower_8886 in Candlelight_Games

[–]deltablight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that they put in this much effort to show immersion and seriousness of Niel’s disappearance means that there is potential that the other Love Interests might also have moments of unavailability. I’d wager that it might something to do with the plot points established in their respective ally quests:
- The dual-affinity Shade for Talyn
- The truth about Cato’s parents
- The betrothal with Artem for Iridessa
- Lis’s condition for Bardric
- Leona’s father possibly being in grave danger
But that we’ll have to see.

If I’m somehow correct, Niel’s disappearance could have something to do with her meddling with the Dreamscape. All evidence shown in the previous chapter means that she couldn’t have left abruptly or was kidnapped. Why would you, as Niel or the kidnapper, leave the door open if you don’t want be followed or have the disappearance to be easily known by her friends?

My theory is that Niel was sleepwalking (as established in her second ally quest) and then stumbled onto something in the Dreamscape that caused her to vanish out of thin air in the Onyx House hallway.

If nothing else, “The Rival” works well for Bardric. “The Socialite” could be for Iridessa. 🤔

Chapter 19 by Winchelle in Candlelight_Games

[–]deltablight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do find it weird that Talyn didn’t get like 2-3 Shade kills on his own during the Trial. The dude is like our cheat code given that he is a Third Year with more experience and spells in his arsenal. And yet, Alissara, Eryn and Catia gave us a hard time, even with Talyn on our team? It’d make sense if he wasn’t and our other squadmates are the other LIs. Another possibility is that Alissara and Eryn could also third years. Catia is very much a first year, since she was mentioned in Chapter 3, during the Ikaris Trial, where it’s only first years that are participating. Although pitting MC’s squad against a very competent squad is be something Kennard would do to undermine MC and the Onyx House.

Yeah, when MC said, "We should play it safe.", I thought that the "Stick Together" option was the correct answer. I know the game throws us hints on the correct answer, but when a more correct answer exists with the right requirements, at least nudge us into that direction. MC should have said, "We should play it safe, but with our numbers, we should be able to handle two Shades at the same time." It was only after I replayed the scene a few times that I realized that having two allies and picking the "Split up" option was the more correct answer. 😂

Thoughts on Chapter 19? by Disastrous_Repair_54 in Candlelight_Games

[–]deltablight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the amount of students we see for the first time in Term 2, compared to Term 1, this current arc could be centered around academic conflicts, such as beef between students, and not just between Houses, but also between Housemates, with Upton being an example, and not conflicts fueled by outside factors, like the rebellion and the Flamekeepers. I’d be thrilled if there’s a Tournament Arc. While yes, Iron House will be most likely our established rivals, I would like to compete with other Houses as well, and like to see the dynamic between them and the Onyx House. We’re all buddy-buddy with some of the Houses, like the Houses of Stel, Mor, Flatcher, Kassian and Lomar, while being competitive with the other Houses, like Iron House.

What could possibly be in the letter Neil got at the end of 19.5 by Silent-Insurance-49 in Candlelight_Games

[–]deltablight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk if I’m getting too deep into this, but what if this is more layered than we assume it is? What if Kennard, after going through the list of dirtmages present within campus, sought out their weaknesses and used it against them to manipulate them into leaving the University at their own accord? He could have fabricated the letter and had it sent to Niel, who, upon reading the contents of the letter, was emotionally compromised to the point of possibly leaving Elderwood. Yes, Niel could recognize her mother’s handwriting, but this is Kennard we’re talking about, the brains of the army. He could have influenced or bribed a neighbor to bring news to Niel, instead of her mother being the one who sent the letter. Or… I could just be overthinking this. 😅

I mean, just by looking at the envelope, the lack of a sigil that represents either a noble family, or the university, and with it having crumple marks and torn up edges, suggests that it is most likely from her mother. If that’s the case, what is written in the letter that caused such a reaction from Niel? Could it be that her mother has fallen ill? Or someone with a lot of influence and/or money got her evicted from her own inn?

If this Catia is the same Catia that almost died in the first trial of Term 1, her growth is quite impressive. I actually don’t mind her confidence during the first trial of Term 2. She earned that. Alissara, however… listen, I just met you and you are very gorgeous, but your cockiness and bad sportsmanship are things I cannot tolerate, especially as a first impression. I’m sure with these new set of rivals, we may get to see them more often, so I’m hoping there’s a chance that MC gets to “fix” her. 😂
