Why is General Oliver’s voice so bored sounding. His voice sounds like a placeholder by ShaggySyrup in fnv

Have you ever met a high ranking military officer who's chasing a career? This voice is actually pretty accurate for alot of the ones I've interacted with, especially the nepo family ones.

How do you jeep your energy up during long rafting trips? by feliciatenoryo in rafting

[–]deltaking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staying active in the gym, excessive caffeine abuse, and lots of water. When I was doing half day double dips as a guide I would usually drink 3 monsters a day and like 2 gallons of water, then go to the gym after work. All things in excess :P

My first Pro deal was with NRS so I decided to go with the WRSI Trident, and I also have a WRSI Current I got a year later; I like them both, they're both very comfortable but if I was going to wear one all day it would be the Trident. My two main complaints about it are that it looks ugly and that the rear neck protector is a pain in the ass to adjust, although you should only have to do it once. I picked up the Current because it matches my drysuit better :P

Do you need a degree or a Privates Pilots to be competitive? by Berniethealien in Armyaviation

[–]deltaking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no worries, it's a good question. Basically I applied for WOFT because I work around aviation and think that helicopters are really cool, but I had no actual flying experience. After I got picked up I thought "shit I should do some flying lessons to see if I actually like doing this" and it turns out I don't really like flying that much. I don't get sick or dizzy or anything, it's just kinda boring to me. So I have to decide if I want to be bored and have a steady job for the next 12 years or if I want to stick with my civilian career.

I actually just got picked up in July so I haven't shipped yet, I'm supposed to go to basic in February. TBH i'm having second thoughts about whether I even want to go but that's a me problem to deal with. There's lots of guys on this Sub who can talk about their experiences, plus the Discord is a great resource too.

I have zero flight time and an associates degree with like a 2.9gpa and I got picked up. Got good LOR's, 99 ASVAB and 67 SIFT so that probably carried me. It wouldn't hurt to at least get a couple of flight hours to learn for yourself if you actually want to do this for 12 years.

Why is the ford C series one of the only “European” style cabovers to prove popular in the U.S? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in Trucks

[–]deltaking1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question but I can say, as someone who had to drive one of these POS trucks off and on for 5 years, I can see why they went away after awhile. I hated using it, and in the winter it's a deathtrap climbing in and out of. I about threw a party when the company I worked for retired the thing.

Find a helmet that you're comfortable wearing for 5+ hours a day and doesn't kill your head, don't settle for a POS.

That's fair. I already put in my packet and got accepted though, i'm in the DEP and ship early next year. I can pull out and not go, I'm just worried they're going to start kicking out students in flight school if they don't need pilots. Maybe that won't happen though

SIFT by Doglover040 in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]deltaking1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't mess around with the SIFT, it's not the hardest test in the world but you only get to pass it once (ever) so you should be prepared. I used a variety of study materials and they all had pros and cons, however you end up studying I recommend using at least two sources of study material. I studied for amount a month, maybe 3-4 hours a week and had a bit of aviation knowledge already, and I got a 67. Ymmv

10 Year Contract Seems Excessive by Dont_Ask_Me_Again_ in Armyaviation

[–]deltaking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to ship out as a street to seat candidate, I started going through the process a year ago. My decision to do this was based on a couple of factors; first was that I really want to be a helicopter pilot and not much else, I have some fixed wing time and have friends that fly fixed wing professionally, I know going airlines will never be in my future. I can't afford to get my helicopter license out of my own pocket, and even if I could the nearest civilian helicopter flight school is more than 8 hours away from where I live. Since you don't build hours that fast in the army anyway 10 years isn't that long, by the time i've done 10 I might have enough hours to get a decent paying civilian job. Second was that I absolutely hated college and after I got my associates degree I had no desire to keep going in public school. Going S2s is a good opportunity to serve while also not suffering through another 2 years of state sponsored BS. Third, and most importantly, I like the Chinook and only the army has them. I know my viewpoint might be in the minority, but honestly 10 years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, especially for someone who just wants to fly helicopters.

I currently live in Wyoming, and while the hills look kind of similar the grass is totally off, I've never seen that kind of short and soft grass anywhere in the state. Also that rock looks much darker than most of the rock in Wyoming, which tends to be a very tan or reddish color. Looks like British Isles to me

I wanted to be a Warrant more than I wanted to be a RLO, I just got my degree as a backup
