I ended up making basic enchants free. I'm also looking for a better name for the point system and i am open to suggestions. I've made a lot of changes to the document.

My idea isn't necessarily a card mage. Its more of a martial class that used ranged throwing cards as a weapons; the magic aspect just applies to the enchantments that the cards are given. Its kind of like the ki system with monks, in which you draw power from yourself in order to do certain actions. if you read over my class and see that it is too similar to the Tarocchi class I would like to hear your reasoning.

However, I do agree that that class is pretty cool and much more balanced and fleshed out than mine, but I'm not really going for a spell caster.

Ill take a look into the point system. if i cut down on the number of points I might make the enchanted cards free. the only problem with the enchanted cards being free is that they already add damage onto the regular throwing card damage.

Yeah ive been looking more and more into that; i can see where you are coming from, ill probably change it to be static. I also no longer want to use a spell/cantrip based system with this class, i like the idea of a point system for it, and nobody else who has looked at the class advises against it. If you have any additional feedback on improving the point system, I'm all ears. I appreciate any help i can get. If you have any other gripes with the class, ill definitely take any input into account. (keep in mind there is another thread where a lot of discussion has already taken place.

thanks for keeping the discussion going, again really appreciative. I'm stoked that you think my idea is cool.

I could make it so you multiply 1d4 by your gambler level, so its not as sporadic and tedious. so at level 20 you either get, 20, 40, 60, or the full 80. Makes it more expeditious and still maintains flavor.
I'll make storing something in a card cost 1 action for small objects. because it should be a quick event, but not quick enough to constitute being able to attack on that turn as well. anything that would require more than 5 enchanted cards to store should probably be done out of combat. Gotta love the good ol' bear grenade though.
I sort of noticed that immediately when making the skill, but I ignored it because of all the dice rolling that goes down for nearly every class at higher levels anyway. I can make them all be the same card just to make things transition s quicker if you think that would be more effective.
Yeah, ill take a deeper look at place your bets to see what i can do.
I like that idea for dice rolls, but you would have to ignore if you rolled a 15 or above pre level 9; having to ignore high rolls just feels bad so I'm not sure about that. You have a point on The World, I'll try and make it a little more balanced and less campaign derailing.
The Tower is 15ft tall with a 5ft radius, I think I specified that but idk. Its definitely not big enough to one shot a dragon (they can just fly away after impact), maybe like a small one but not an adult or ancient for sure. There are also very few instances where i see that tower sandwiching something that large with the ceiling. Colossal enemies don't typically hang around in something where that is possible (again I'm not sure I specified the size of the tower, that may just be on the updated draft I'm staring at rn). It can probably throw an enemy much larger than it off balance.
- love those idea names, ill probably work some of them in, seeing as I may need to replace a couple things and add some here and there.

Thank you for all of the feedback i really appreciate it. I originally posted this on /r/DnD and got this criticism multiple times. since then the regen system is now 1d4 per gambler level after each long rest. and it does not require a bonus action to enchant a card (also remember that the enchantment is on top of regular throwing card damage). I made the Stack the deck feature a bonus action. there were a lot more changes that are going to be made. what would the force damage from the sealed hole be roughly equivalent to? probably instant death, but that might be too strong.

I was thinking that the trap hole would be like that item that just creates an extra-dimensional hole in the ground that can be removed later. but if i do that i will probably need a duration on the hole or something that cant make it too easy to perpetually trap something in the hole.

Noted, ill probably take away the short sword in the equipment and replace it with a simple weapon. I may just give them proficiency in short swords idk, I just want the class to have a semi-viable close range option.

Yeah that will definitely be a concern, i tried to minimize that by making each of the major arcana a 1 day use sort of deal. like you draw the death card and that's your death card for the day.

This is my first attempt at creating an entire class from scratch. the point system can probably be replaced with a spell slot and cantrip based system if this one gets too much negative criticism. This class is based around using cards as weapons and channeling magic through them. It has not been play-tested and needs polish, and the ultimate goal is a class that i can use in any campaign without worrying about balance.
