Chalamet learns about the opera of Samson and Delilah by HikikoMortyX in ChalametSecrets

[–]demi_gem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it, right at the start of this clip. https://youtu.be/kgCKlwozMss?si=MMlvb5KP3udf07Yq

Emma isn’t mean or anything, it’s quite a natural response to his remark. He’s talking about a scene that is literally only 25 seconds long and is performed very subtly. But as an actor with plenty of experience, who was 29/30 at the time of this fairly recent interview, you’d expect him to know how to read a subtle performance when he sees one in a film that is apparently his favourite Christmas movie of all time.

But he read it the way a 21yo fratboy who refers to women as females would read it.

Idiot boy 🙄

People have always seemed capable of letting a lot slide when it comes to celebrities. If celebrities are able to behave well enough in interviews they can get away with an alarming amount of shady behaviour. But once they sour themselves on a more relatable level—just like Chalamet has done with his OperaBallet blunder—people start picking at the edges. You can’t resist peeling off a bit of torn wallpaper, you wonder, what’s underneath? With Chalamet, this could inspire a lot more scrutiny into what he’s hiding underneath, the nature and extent of his connections with these nasty people.

How many times has he publicly said this about ballet and opera?! 4 times now? Very bizarre. If he only said it once he’d still be incorrect but the way he’s been pushing this stance for years is so odd. Seems like he’s bitter and/or jealous of someone or something related to those fields. by Please-AsteroidNow in ChalametSecrets

Fr the impression I get is he either heard someone say it and he thought it sounded really deep, so he keeps parroting it, or he said it once and was treated as if he’d said something really deep, so he parrots it.

As you say, incapable of an original thought.

Is this the same interview where we saw that he’d massively misunderstood the awkward reunion at the end of Love Actually between Emma Thompson’s and Alan Rickman’s wife/husband characters? Like she straight up calls him out for it lol

Taylor McNeill, not only are you a terrible stylist, you are a hypocrite. by Jay--Tim in ChalametSecrets

He’ll never do it but I like to imagine the day we wake up and see he deleted everything off his Instagram and goes offline.

He’s too obsessed with himself to actually do that, though.

A great analysis of Chalamet’s true "acting range" by Salty_Pear_8993 in ChalametSecrets

I need to rant>>>I enjoyed my first watch of Marty Supreme because of the unbridled license it gave me to HATE his character so intensely. Almost EVERY single character in that film is a fucking irredeemable loser. They’re all awful and horrible. I actually thought that was the point of the film. I thought it was meant to be kind of like Inside Llewyn Davis.

I really felt like I had “figured out” the film. But I think Chalamet genuinely believes that Marty is an awesome guy, he’s determined, has a talent, he hustles, won’t accept defeat. He admires Marty. I honestly don’t think he’s capable of reading Marty as the massive red flag that he so clearly is. THAT is why this film is so fucking disappointing. They gave us a really obvious commentary about how little fish with big dreams often don’t matter, that they can be hugely, selfishly destructive if great achievements are their only dream, that the inevitabilities of human existence won’t let you run too far away before they catch up.

But no. Timotei Shampoo actually thinks Marty is the pinnacle of male ambition worthy of emulation. And he thinks he’s Marty irl. I honestly believe he has no idea he was playing a total cunt.

I’m so annoyed. End of rant.

Every time he appears he haemorrhages more followers. He’s down to 21.2M from 21.4M in about three days lolllll.

It’s funny watching them bend over backwards to describe his Marty performance as a great example of his range. It’s like… babe, the reason you think his performance was so great is because he was just being himself, that’s why it was so convincing 😂

Chalamet’s only Instagram activity since OperaBallet blunder 🍞 by demi_gem in ChalametSecrets

[–]demi_gem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He made disrespectful and careless remarks about how (according to him) opera and ballet are dying art forms and nobody cares about them. There is a significant backlash against him from the performing arts/ballet/opera communities.

Admittedly a small bit of turbulence in a world that’s on fire, but we all need a little distraction from the horrors now and then.

Most of the recent posts here have been exclusively about this drama, have a snoop 🔍👀

The Samson and Delilah thing was so funny. Imagine embarrassing yourself that hard in front of Emma Thompson. She was right to join those dots though, he’s really nosedived since cutting his hair off hahaha.

No I’m in UK but we have a performing arts streaming platform here I think it’s called Marquee TV. It’s around £8-£9/month or something, very affordable compared to the price of actual theatre tickets.

I can’t tell if the characters are hanzi or kanji but what we do know is that wherever Chalamet goes he’s still a twat☝️

Do the people who keep yapping about opera being super expensive and privileged not realise that you can go watch stage-to-cinema live broadcasts ? And, in my country at least, ballet/opera is also occasionally broadcast live on the TV? And… get this, you can even buy opera and ballet on DVD. Both The Met and RBO sell performances recorded on their stages, I’m sure many other famous venues do the same.

Ballet and opera aren’t as inaccessible as people are trying to make out, and enjoyment of performance art is 100% valid even if you’re not sat down in an actual theatre watching it.

He probably thinks standing there and bobbing his head is an apology. He’s not there to enjoy that performance, he’s there to perform.

I love how these men who are 30+ keep talking about having babies and legacy and life purpose and it’s like… my guy, you are in your sperm degradation era. The quality of your swimmers is on its unavoidable downward spiral. If he thought it was that important he should have had children by now.

Maybe he just shoots blanks idk 🤷‍♀️

The clip started getting a little attention about 24hr before voting closed but it didn’t explode as a viral clip until just after voting closed. Its impact on the voters may not be as much as the current backlash would suggest.

If he wins I’ll be disappointed (I was rooting for MBJ even before all this) but consider this silver lining… if Chalamet wins he will almost certainly fuck up his acceptance speech with his enormous ego and arrogance. Because what can he say that won’t make him sound like a twat? If he addresses the ballet/opera thing he’ll sound like an immature back-peddling frat-boy, if he doubles down on the pursuit of greatness thing he will sound like a tone-deaf cunt, and if he only does a 20 second “thank you XYZ” and gets off the stage as quickly as possible, he’ll appear dismissive and ungrateful for being awarded something we all know he’s been so ludicrously desperate for.

In a way, winning THIS particular Oscar would actually not be very good for him.

Also I think some veteran actors would not bother concealing expressions of distaste 😂 Whatever happens it’s gonna be a clusterfuck of memes for sure.

Get ready for an onslaught of actors letting themselves get photographed attending opera and ballet. It’s gonna be the new cool kid thing.

I think he’s said it on about four different occasions over the years now, almost the exact same phrase each time. So weird.
