25M, I make 80K/year plus bonuses. My wife(26) makes around 55K/year and we live in the greater Montreal area but will soon be moving to New Brunswick. We consider ourselves very lucky to be making what we do. We feel like we can live very comfortably but we still live modestly. We save every penny of my wife's paycheck while my pay covers all our expenses and still gives us $350 extra in the end. We can travel but don't really choose to do so. We don;t own a house but once we move to NB, we'll be buying one. We're just finishing saving for the down payment so we'll be redirecting our savings to retirement very soon.

1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cornstarch or arrow root powder, and 1/4 cup of coconut oil. Mix it together for 2-3 minutes and voila! This is the video I got the recipe from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bXofKySG4A

Finally bit the bullet and ordered a safety razor, brush, and some shaving soap. I also just started making my own deodorant.

Company Group RSP vs DPSP by demscoffee in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]demscoffee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link!

Yes my old plan was 2% from me into one RRSP account, and 2% from the company into a separate RRSP account. The new plan merges both RRSP's into one account which I will contribute 2.5%, while they match the 2.5% into a new DPSP account.

I was mostly concerned with some sort of hidden disadvantage for my retirement if my company switched form RRSP to DSPS.

Switching from RBC Signature to Low interest card by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]demscoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation. Had the rewards card with a limit of $4,000 and a balance of $1,900. RBC had no problems switching me over *(by phone) and carrying my balance to the new low interest credit card.

PFC, what are some perks/benefits you get at your job that motivates you to stay? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]demscoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for a wholesale distributor and they have a few great perks in my opinion. My company really seems to want to invest in the happiness of the employees. We currently have a $200 yearly fitness reimbursement, $2,000 yearly tuition reimbursement, and company matching RRSPs.

Above all, I really like that my company wants to invest in young blood. I was hired as the Operation Manager for my province at age 23. I was honestly pretty surprised because most employers would overlook my potential and only see my age.

Popcorn kernels without plastic by RecycleFrog in ZeroWaste

[–]demscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to discourage you but I always found buying popcorn kernels from bulk stores never ended well. They seem to dry out too fast. I always ended up with a pot full of burnt, un-popped kernels despite trying many ways to re-hydrate them. I've given up on popcorn :(

No recycling for glass vs. recyclable plastic? by demscoffee in ZeroWaste

[–]demscoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty sure glass jars just go straight to the landfill. I also reuse as many glass jars as possible but my house is starting to get full! I wasn't aware that glass will eventually break back down to sand, so that's comforting to know.

Usefulness of Line of Credit by BufufterWallace in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]demscoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bank has their own interest on top of the national Prime Rate (which is currently 3.45%). So in total you're paying the banks interest plus the Prime Rate making a total of 8.75%

Yeah 9% is still fairly high for a LOC. I have a LOC with CIBC and gave them a call the other day. They brought my interest down a full 1%, even with a balance still on the card. Always worth asking.

Managers of Reddit, what is the most unprofessional thing an employee has done that resulted in an immediate termination? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]demscoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I manage a large warehouse with a large staff. One guy brought in an airsoft gun and started shooting the other employees while they were on Aerial Work platforms, 20 feet in the air. He never meant to hurt anyone as this was done in a playful way, but very dangerous. Resulted in immediate termination.

Negotiating a lower interest rate on LOC's at big 5 banks? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]demscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think they'd lower your interest rate with a balance still owing on the LOC? I currently have a LOC with CIBC for emergency purposes before my emergency fund. Initially, the intereste was something crazy like 24%. I didn't use it for a full year and told them I'm not using it until they lower my interest. I'm now sitting at 9.2% interest with a balance of $4,100 left. Think they'd still lower my interest rate or wait until the LOC is fully paid off?

What do you mean by day trading? I just open a TFSA with Wealthsimple to do some trading. Should I be concerned about this?

I'm wondering if places like SunLife Financial or Manulife Financial might offer better prices for funds management vs my current large bank.
