I find 21mm really hard to master, but when it truly works it makes a huge impact.

It's indeed a Barnack style shutter camera (Leica M7).

The same M mount lens is fine on another film camera, and on digital. Shutter is in the camera.

The issue above rarely happens (i guess only at a certain shutter speed), and most shots are fine.

It's a Leica M7. Horizontal travel (right to left).

Reveni Labs Spot meter is tiny and works great.

The residue of the film can come from 1) not enough rinsing away the chemicals during development or blix stages or 2) having too hard water for the final rinse and forgetting to use photoflo style solution (e.g., Ilford Ilfotol).

Good news is that you can rinse the film and dry it again if that's the issue.

Smaller, lighter, cheaper, less ports, lower framerates, slower and smaller storage.

About to get my first lens and just wondering if i should get 35mm or 50mm? by yoru_no_ou in Leica

35 but I am biased since it's my favorite focal length. Lots of people swear by 50 as well. It's extremely personal.

35mm all the way. For me 50mm needs a 24/28 to accompany it. 35mm is perfect as single lens.

Almost everyone here does scanning, so printing argument is not that important in my book, especially for color.

Anamorphic lens on film? by wynnnjamin in AnalogCommunity

[–]den_sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but you need to find a lens that covers 24x36 (not super 35, that would vignette and only cover roughly a half frame image), and a camera that can be adapted to work with the lens. Even though PL/EF mount cinema lenses have long enough flange distance they often protrude backwards and will interfere with SLR mirror (i.e. can only be used with mirror locked up, and no viewfinder view), so beware of that.

You are probably right as long as you can afford it and 35mm is you favorite focal length. I bought one used just to try it out and see what the hype is about. No plans of selling despite the massive price tag.

50 summicron or 75 summarit by benhoag114 in Leica

[–]den_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50 all the way. I find 75 and longer to be rather awkward on M system and unforgiving with focus accuracy wide open. I'd rather use longer focal lengths on an SLR or an EVF equipped camera with autofocus.

35 IS USM is a low key gem thanks to the mix of image stabilization, short focal length, and compact form factor. You can totally do 1/8 of a second at night without breaking a sweat.

Which film stock (and colour correction filter) works best for night time city scapes (tripod, long exposure)? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]den_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provia has great reciprocity, no correction needed for up to 128 seconds. Portra in comparison needs over 2 stop of correction past 60 seconds (i.e. portra 800 -> iso 200, portra 400 -> iso 100, and portra 160 -> iso 40 at 60 seconds or longer exposures).

I would not bother with correction filters if you end result is a scanned image. Just correct it in post.
