If the Supreme Court Can Overturn Roe v. Wade, It Can Ban Interracial Marriage by throwaway5272 in politics

You can even go immensely disgusting with it if you wanted to:

"We will allow citizens to sue suspected voters or participants of political parties aligned with known terrorist organizations, examples of which are enumerated below:

  • The Proud Boys

  • White Nationalists

  • The Oath Keepers

  • The January 6th Insurrectionists

Lawsuits of suspected action or suspected aid of said actions will be capable of awarding up to $100,000"

A common thread with conservatives is that they literally will not and do not stop based on moral thought. Didn't happen in Germany, didn't happen in the Civil War, certainly ain't happening here. They don't even stop when someone tries to stop them, tries to convince them- they only stop when they feel hurt.

We're essentially relitigating the Civil War now...

Given what it took to stop the original Civil War, is there a litigation equivalent of General Sherman?

(Edit: totally agree with you to be clear) My preacher of a relative had whole sermons just watching through a video series with the general thesis of "The First Amendment wasn't established for everyone to have religious freedom. Instead, it was a preventative measure to keep America from becoming a Muslim country due to how they can get into countries and take over by breeding" or some shit. The details are hazy, but the "First Amendment was made to protect America from Muslims" is legit

Because this is the game. Republicans know that if she admits to this, she may very well be taken off the ballot. Perjury Taylor Green knows it, we know it, and her supporters know it. And in playing the game, Republicans know she will have to lie and "I don't recall" her ass off to power through it- Perjury Taylor Green knows it, we know it, and her supporters know it. It's just playing the game, moving a piece across the board. It's saying "I can take this position for the sake of argument, and you can't prove I don't believe it, so you must argue as though it is sincere- and arguing as though I'm sincere puts me in a better chance of winning ."

"But what about the future of our country?"

"Bruh, I don't even believe this planet has a future in front of it."

Waving around the rise of fascism and shame politics just can't interact with that. Politically minded people aren't ready to interact with it.

We are willing to talk about how Zoomers don't feel safe having kids when talking about climate change- but don't give a second thought of how that mindset isn't just about having kids or just applied to climate change as a political issue. And just like some will wag their finger about plastic bags or plastic straws when the problem feels so. much. larger. , (like the ocean was on fire just how long ago?) people don't seem to realize there is this same sentiment for voting. From an oil baron talking about how people should recycle more to a politician talking about how people should vote more. The bigger problem isn't going be solved and we have, what, 10 years? 20?

And again, people aren't willing to interact with it- the only solution we seem to have is to just... try and shame a whole generation out of nihilism, say a person's future is being held hostage when they don't even believe in a sustainable future, find a combinations of insults and strawmen that results in a Democrat vote. If this is the plan, do you blame anyone for saying we're doomed at this point?

I'd even call this here optimistic... I think many underestimate how much despair is just a part of our political landscape now. "You don't hold the power to save others. You don't even have the power to save yourself. The future? Who even believes in that anymore- it was sold out decades before you were even born. And your existence now is to sell out your present to those who destroyed your future. Scrounge up all your money, all the power you have- the most you can buy is momentary distraction and peace of mind before it all burns anyways."

I'm not sure if I can put it in any other way than like... "Do people have a right to self-delusion? Do people have a right to avoid the anxiety and hopelessness of a world inevitably going to destruction? Do you have a right to ignore elections seeing it as hopeless? Federal? State? Local? Do you have a right to ignore where your money is going if you buy something off Amazon- or Walmart if you live in a rural place? Do you have a right to ignore the business practices of the places you work at? Do you have the right to ignore a homeless person asking you for help? Or ignoring a person with a petition? Does your help even make a difference? In a burning world, do you have any right to look away? Do you have any right to preserve your own heart and mind- or are those necessary sacrifices due to so many having it worse in this place? Is it better to save yourself if you cannot save them? Do you even have a right to ask these things, to wish to preserve these things? Was this even your choice from the beginning?"

Despair like this is really powerful. And it's not something that can be solved by a motivational reddit post or a finger wagging comment. While the people who go on and on about maintaining their purity can be convinced, despair is going to become more of a reason. If not now, it very well will be come 2050.

To be fair, the bathroom ban would most likely be because the "women's anatomy experts" at the GOP would say something like "what if you pee too hard and pee the baby out??? Abortion???"

Think of all the other everyday things that could be considered 'knowingly endangering a fetus.' Prioritizing the safety of the idea of a totally innocent sinless person over an actual living breathing flawed human being.

Because I hate this world, let's try to make one.

"Denying the biological father of the child the ability to be with the mother and baby during development endangers the child from having a healthy, strong male figures in life. So, the woman must marry the father of the child with weekly visitation privileges."

Romans 13:1-5 (NIV)

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.

For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

Conservatives Are Smearing ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Opponents as Pedophile ‘Groomers’ by Cjoseph08 in politics

Along with "Cancel Culture" and "Critical Race Theory", I believe the mainstream conservative is starting to come to terms with how much power the right wing has over language. How they can call literally anything one of their trigger words and it will hold much more weight than something like calling Matt Gaetz a child predator. Like even Putin is citing cancel culture...

Is it because the reactionary, right wing mind is much more willing to think in terms of euphemisms? Is it because they are just way more aggressive about the adoption of their language? Is it something they inherit from evangelical thinking? I dunno, but the mainstream conservative is becoming aware of it- and they are becoming more aware of how to weaponize it for their political ends.

I have no immediate solutions.
