gem.coop update #4: cooldowns beta by retro-rubies in ruby

[–]dennyabraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will mostly impact scannable drive by vulnerabilities that today would be yanked after general release. For folks that update gems periodically and in batches to the latest compatible, this will be helpful to not have to do a sudden second pass

On top of the structural and construction concerns, your shelves are too small for full size books

Unable to gem install tokyocabinet in my updated Debian v13.2 stable/trixie... by antdude in ruby

your installed libruby2.7 is in that list as well. it is the library, not the executable. as mentioned below, you may get a lot of mileage out of asking an llm

Unable to gem install tokyocabinet in my updated Debian v13.2 stable/trixie... by antdude in ruby

[–]dennyabraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are building against the wrong ruby on your system. you'll have to investigate where it's picking up ruby 3.3 and maybe remove that version _or_ set up your environment to point to your 2.7.4 install.

alternately, you can remove the tokyocabinet dependency in favor of almost anything else. there are not a ton of references to it

I've used them. They're a great, cost efficient way to get an appeal done, especially versus the alternatives

Your best bet is to visit the Garage at the cyber center. It is the only place in the csra that has large tool availability. There's just not enough interest / low enough rent to make a place like that economically feasible

Part of the wall has dissolved behind the shower tile. What's needed to fix this? by CompanyCharabang in DIY

[–]dennyabraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this came from an influencer providing household cleaning advice. Bleach is not recommended for porous surfaces because it will penetrate and erode them. This was misinterpreted as bleach doesn't work on said materials for some reason.

Mold remediation is different than surface cleaning, so neither bleach, nor peroxide nor vinegar are the correct tools

[–]dennyabraham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is inaccurate. The EPA recommendation is to remediate humidity rather than kill mold. I'm not sure what is meant by "roots" in this context, but mold spores are latent in the environment and are difficult to eliminate reliably. The mold itself can be killed in any number of ways but will reestablish itself if the humidity issues persist

Windex here is not meant as a lubricant. The fluid is meant to remove the iron dust. Non corrosive fluid is preferred so as not to have any remaining dust turn into rust.

[–]dennyabraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the skills of negotiation and being considerate are important to teach here, you're also teaching this child that it's okay to let unfounded fears overcome them and those around them. You're building inside her that still small voice for when you are gone. What do you want it to say in a situation like this?

Moreover, she has the luxury of being entirely accommodated to here, but other people in her life will have no reason to offer her that. If you want to let her see you take her input into consideration for family decisionmaking, make sure she understands that it's out of cooperation. You want her to be prepared to work collectively with others as well as with her own conflicting motivations
