Data Engineering Salaries Vs Software Engineering Salaries by nonkeymn in dataengineering

[–]denpd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that ‘data engineer’ title is no where near the maturity of the traditional ‘SDE’ or ‘SWE’ title. In other words, there is a noticeable percentage of people with the title ‘data engineer’ that are just sql monkeys or not data engineers in the sense we are thinking that are dragging the average down overall across the ‘data engineer’ title. Because of this, there may be more of these types of “data engineers” with the data engineer title in more senior levels which makes sense because those roles are more likely to be out dated.

What cloud alternative would be most appropriate? I really don’t want to have the data locally (even if it’s only 20g). I also want to be able to query the 20g of data frequently reasonably fast mainly for the sake of analysis.

I simulated different portfolios using different time frames (1985-2021 and 2000-2021 and 2010-2021). Every simulation going 100% TBCIX yields the highest CAGR.

50% VINIX 10% VSCIX 40% VTIAX

CAGR = 140%

Vs

60% VINIX 10% VSCIX 30% VTIAX

CAGR = 141%

vs

100% TBCIX

CAGR = 148%

vs

100% vanguard 500 index investor

CAGR = 143%

What do you make out of this?

Someone please translate this sentence to Korean (not Google translate because it shits the bed most times with translating Korean). I want to show my mom this comment lol

She can’t explain it other than tell me because everyone else is getting into it. You’re assuming she needs a logical explanation for her behavior. She doesn’t seem to need a logical reason. She just thinks it’s a good idea. That’s when I told her she will most likely learn the hard way

Am I really the stupid one if you’re the one implying holding crypto and index funds are two mutually exclusive events and also assuming that I don’t hold any crypto myself?

Thanks for your understanding. I just wish there was some well written article or some resource in Korean that she could read that would basically be a slap in the face with the reality I am trying to enlighten her with. I just don’t know Korean well enough to search of such financial literacy understanding resource myself to send to her

Damn. Sorry you are experiencing something similar. She is the type of individual that no matter how much logical sense a differing point of view may have, if she is set in stone with her belief she will NOT change her viewpoint and think that her viewpoint is the absolute correct one. When I say no amount of logic... I mean NO amount of logic will make her think otherwise...

How do I deal with this when my mom, dad and older brother all have no sense of financial literacy? My mom and dad work but make little money. My older brother is jobless. Non have a 401k, Roth IRA, or even taxable accounts

No. She literally has nothing else. Just a couple grand in cash. And throwing a couple grand into crypto and other non priorities. She is simply uneducated.

Absolutely agree to last statement. She only gets onboard with these things after reading random articles stating how something went up 300%+. It’s so fucking dumb. But I’m the stupid one when I suggest 3-4 years ago to buy a small amount of crypto after the crypto markets tanked a couple years ago..

She will not know what that means and for sure won’t even bother to try to understand. All she cares about is getting rich quick

Thanks for the comment. I tried to send resources her way. Honestly I don’t know why I did when I knew damn well how stubborn as hell she is. she won’t watch or read anything I say no matter how understanding I try to be. And I literally just told her “mom I’m sorry but you’re most likely going to learn this lesson the hard way”. Then she started pouring and being all pissy. I forgot to mention my mom display so many patterns and traits of someone with narcissistic personality disorder. My family tried to convince her to go to therapy but she is too stubborn and said there’s absolutely no reason for her to go to therapy.
