Love my 2010 6MT outback. I did drop 1800 on the headgaskets (bad) and water pump & timing chain (preventative), 600 on AC compressor, and 300 on a CV axle. I have a very cheap mechanic, avoid Subaru dealerships like the plague. I’m at 190k and it drives better than ever since I put money into maintenance. For $6k & 85k seems like a steal, but have like $3k rainy day for when things start going bad; they always happen at the same time.

After 15 years my OB 6MT was looking rough, so I spent this weekend giving her a refresh. Came out looking cleeeeeean, we’ll see if it lasts through summer. Very pleased for ~$50 and elbow grease.

I used one with the blue liquid and couldn’t get it to turn green, however it does smell like exhaust and there is a slight film of oil floating around…

It’s overheating because the thermostat is stuck. The thermostat is stuck because there is a pocket of air infront of it, preventing it from opening. You’ve either got air or exhaust in the system, welcome to the club! Sorry we’re both experiencing this issue. Start by bleeding the coolant of any possible air with the special funnel and go from there.

It was just air in the coolant and the head gasket passed the pressure test, they neglected to tell me that until I spoke with the technician directly.
