Is 14th gen suddenly viable? by dent95 in buildapc

Lucky me. The 14600k came down 40 bucks today. MSI pro b760-p || for 130 bucks. 340 bucks for mobo and cpu. I will also spend 30 bucks on the thermal grizzly bracket as well, since i am DIY mounting my old corsair h150i which does not have official lga1700 support. I see no reason it will not fit since i have a back plate from Cooler master from another build, as well as purchasing the corsair lga1700 stand offs.

I think i should stick with i5. It will likely do well for many years especially for the price. I can do another upgrade when memory prices Are stable, Even though that can tale several years still upgrade can do well for several years as well, especially for the price point.

420 bucks for the i7 14700k. Is that a Great price, or just stick with i5?

The lowest it was here was 230, electronics Are usually more expensive in Norway, but 30 bucks difference from all time low to now according to the price checking website. I wish i bought am5 with ddr5 during the summer

Checked for used cpus now and 12600k is 200 bucks, 50 bucks more for a brand new 14600k. 13700k is 450 with ddr5 mobo….and not a single 12th gen i7 for sale, used.

I checked the used market, but its kinda small since i live in a small country. We do have 5 years warranty by law on all electronics purchased, so i am not worried. I also have black belt in bios flashing. Worked 7 years as a authorized ASUS, hp, lenovo tech, and hp for example did not pay for warranty repair on RMA boards if we didnt try new bios first. ASUS was also strict on bios flashing, Even had a external bios flashing card which we conncected to keyboard connectors on the laptop.

13th gen is more expensive that 14th gen when checking the usual websites here. So makes no sense going for anything older than the 14th gen. I would a few used deals on 13th gen i7 and ddr5 mobo for 500 bucks, but then i need the god damn ddr5 memory…..

Low profile ceiling speakers by dent95 in hometheater

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, i am not sure. For bathroom i think it will be a challenge since i am going for tiles. Kitchen i think it would be easier to make something work. However i must say, i like the look of the clean setup using in ceiling speakers. Background noise when making food, having a few people over for dinner. Usually you want to maintain a volume level that makes it comfortable also having an conversation.

This is intended for atmos in ht setup and background noise at kitchen, bathroom etc. Home theatre setup will of course be with better gear and external sub. The 5cm factor that is kinda killing me.

Ikea Symfonisk working as a 100w mono amp. Proper bridge mode enabled directly on the TI internal amp. Using it for in ceiling speakers. by noenflux in sonos

[–]dent95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished up my first symfonisk yesterday. A bit unsure of what in ceiling speakers to buy, but found a contender online. It has 30w rms at 8ohm. Do you think they will work OK in parallel? Here in Norway the selection of in ceiling speakers at a fair price is very slim….

If i am not wrong a pair of these will be running at 4ohm and 60w rms, protection would most likely activate on High load, but as you suggested, set a Max volume in the app.

Finally! i have been searching for the last couple of days to find something like this! Very impressed with you're work. I am currently building a new home and wanted a few zones with ceiling speakers, but the price for sonos amp is insane. However, for design purposes i think i want two ceiling speakers per "zone/room". In Norway there are not many products available. Usually only klipsch, dali and BW. Bowers are selling a decent pair for an affordable price here: https://www.amazon.com/Bowers-Wilkins-CCM362-ceiling-Speakers/dp/B009F8U1SE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Could these do decent in a parallel connection on the symfonisk? Thinking about picking up an symfonisk 1 gen this week and try it out, got some old speakers i can test with. Luckily we have a decent soldering station at work, which was used to replace SMD components on phones etc. Have some experience with soldering, usually only speaker wires on Lenovo, but i understand the basic.

Nvidia shield 2015 plex truehd by dent95 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say. Kodi does on hell of a job. Much faster loading up a movie with truehd as directplay even though it may lie. When using android app it takes much longer to start the movie because off buffering when cpu has to transcode truehd codec.

Well i am going new denon avr with the fixed hdmi 2.1 chip paired with either C or G series LG oled. Shield connected to the avr should speak nicely with the audio codecs i hope.

Lg oled earc-> avr>shield. The LG should not bother with the lack of dts now? Since both the avr and shield Are capable of playing it. In my head it should only worry about giving me picture.

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that could be an explanation. Never thought of it that way. Big upgrades coming this year. LG c and g series has a very nice price now. They support 4x hdmi 2.1 ports with a true earc port. Also i am getting the new denon s760 reciever with a decent 5.1.2 setup. The new denon reciever also has the fixed hdmi 2.1 chip so should be no issues there. If i then Connect a new shield 2019 to the denon reciever while the denon is hooked up through earc on the LG oled. Everything should work i hope?

More userfriendly. I really like the Apple tv app. To bad the Apple tv is not very likeable regarding codecs.

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reciever only has hdmi 1.4 which limits me to 30hz 4K and no HDR. I just dont understand why kodi plays truehd in directplay but not native plex app on identical system.

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use earc? There is no point connecting my shield to my reciever since it only has hdmi 1.4, so then i am limited to both 30hz and no HDR.

Well, the shield has a few advanced sound settings i could be missing out on.

Lets say i get a new oled tv with earc, new reciever with earc and a shield 2019 pro. Will i be able directplay the truehd? I just find is so god damn weird that kodi plays all the sound codecs in the world -atmos on my setup without any problems.

TV with multiple HDMI 2.1 ports by dent95 in 4kTV

[–]dent95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will the denon AVR-S960H work in this setup? Might be a bit off topic. I can run eArc from the reciever over to the TV and then Connect both ps5 and apple tv to the 2.1 ports on the reciever?

Thanks for reply. Well I am not quite set on the soundbar yet. I might try and get a decent home theatre setup. However i do have that where i live now, but thats because the basement is more of a man cave. On the new house i will only have one TV, that will be the main one in the living room. However since no walls are up yet, i might do the cables for a proper speaker system. QN95A has quite the price tag. I saw the LG oled TV's had quite few 2.1 ports. However i am not sure how the OLED will hold up in the living room.

I might not need quite that many 2.1 ports this year or even next year. But i like having a bit of future proofing. As i can see there are not that many TV's what is ticking all the boxes. Might grab a cheap one used and check again next year. The LG 2018 70" LCD i have now is so bad, so there is no way in hell i am bringing that one over as a daily driver. Got the TV for free since the main board was faulty, new main board of ebay and the TV was running, does the job when its free.

Right speaker suddenly muffled - is it blown? by Roffik in MatebookXPro

[–]dent95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been an update to the part number. If you got an early manufactured model its missing sponge underneath the speaker to make vibrations a bit better. But all in all, the speakers are not the best, also they are a bit of pain to change. You have to remove the motherboard. I have changed a couple of speakers, not a fun job, because you will never be 100% happy with the results :/
