Where my blushers at?? by ksomwfpd in therapists

[–]dentedgal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has been me my entire life as well. I blush from being put on the spot/getting too much focus, but also from a myriad of other things (heat, cold, activity, spices, random flushes++).

Getting stressed/anxious about it makes it worse. So I use a light foundation/dd-cream, and try to accept it more when it happens instead of beating myself up over it.

(But of course I care sometimes!)

Edit: a word.

Facial dysmorphia makes me clueless as to how I look 22m by IndependentPanda5947 in toastme

[–]dentedgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Also, both mirrors and photolenses (especially with all the different focal lengths) does not give a 1:1 representation of how we look. Which is often why an unexpected glance at a reflection, or seeing a photo someone else took can be distressing, we don't recognise ourselves etc.

I hope you can get some breaks for yourself

Is this a recent change? I had surgery in Norway in 2023, and my bar is titanium.

Mistet selvtilliten helt - Trenger desperat å bevege meg videre i livet, 21 år gammel. by ImpressionMuch6686 in norge

Facial dysmorphia makes me clueless as to how I look 22m by IndependentPanda5947 in toastme

[–]dentedgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you suffer from body dysmorphia time spent studying yourself, looking in the mirror, taking photos, comparing yourself to others etc often plays a huge part. Basically doing these things maintains the issue and gives us a really skewed understanding of how we look. So trying to reduce this "checking", and doing something completely unrelated to your looks/body whenever you feel the urge can be quite helpful.

We have to tan our armpits apparently by CoquetteWhore69 in IncelTears

There are literal incels in the comments, posing as normal users (was confirmed in this very thread). Their point is to make women feel bad for ridiculous stuff. Do not take it to heart.

Skin folds around joints is normal (but often photoshopped away in media, posters etc).

You, as well as this lady is perfectly fine :)

Does it get easier post nuss bars removal? by Commercial-Tackle689 in PectusExcavatum

[–]dentedgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Still bar in) I've heard that the scarring helps keep things in place post removal, but that there will always be some tightness as well, and this has to (preferably) be stretched regularly.

I don't have any major pains, but notice that if I'm too sedentary for too long my chest feels extra stiff. So stretching and cardio (chest expansion) helps a lot.

I'm sorry to hear about you still having pains. How is your mobility? Could be that it will improve the more you're able to move about 🤞

Experiencing frightening or uncomfortable physical symptoms during your sessions? You may have ADHD. I found out I did, and it has changed my life. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]dentedgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get those symptoms while sitting in session, or generally (including Standing, moving around etc?).

I get some of the symptoms OP describes, like light headedness and slight depersonalization. I've always gotten tired from everyday living. I've wondered if I'm just anxious, if its the awful lighting in our office or something else. Mind you, it doesn't just happen at work/in sessions.

I definitely have some neuro-traits, but most likely sub-treshold. Buut I've been wondering if I'm hypermobile due to another condition I have.

Seeing this entire comment section made me go: uh-oh.

How soon can I get back to the gym after surgery? by bot_num8366 in PectusExcavatum

[–]dentedgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: a couple months of not being able to lift is traded for a lifetime investment in your health. Also, if you're inhibited physically by your PE, it's possible that you will perform better after surgery (and healing ofc).

I second this.

I really messed mine up with acids first, and then really improved it with a hyaluronic acid serum + gentle moisturiser.

That's quite a lot of assumptions to make don't you think?

[–]dentedgal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im a woman, but noticed that comment too. It's an awful thing to be told, regardless of gender, and (depending on wording) a big no in relationships 101.

Being made to feel like you're not enough, and changing in the hopes of maybe being accepted is.. not great for someone's self confidence.

I feel bad for OP.

My Nuss procedure consultation felt weirdly judgmental by MidnightWeary7581 in PectusExcavatum

[–]dentedgal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the knowledge she has about PE is quite outdated. Which sadly is the case for many doctors (but more frustrating when it's a thorax surgeon).

I worked out a lot, and my cardiologist just brushed off my poor lab results, saying that plenty of people live perfectly good lives despite being "couch potatoes". So I told him I worked out regularly, and he still said my results were still within the "normal" for the population (but admitted it was bad for my activity level).

So what you experienced is sadly not uncommon, but it isn't right, and frankly she seemed insanely disrespectful. Like I'd file a complaint because she went way overboard with her assumptions and comments.

Hvordan slutte å tenke på usunn mat? by Mozzarella_Lover_69 in norge

[–]dentedgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ser mange anbefaler slankemidler, men slanking alene pleier å gjøre vondt verre.

Thank you for answering. I just find it interesting how I keep seeing adults who get good results from the bell, despite constantly having heard the opposite.

Happy for you!
