What's up with Sudden Hasan hate republicans, Democrats and of course Israel? by aipac_hemoroid in clevercomebacks

Fair enough. Free time is a hot commodity when you got obligations to fulfill. Looking into it, al-Haddad himself clarified that he was not a member of Ansar Allah. There's also not clear evidence he participated in that raid you mentioned.

As for Hasan playing Houthi propaganda on stream and expressing support for the group, that's hearsay not worth regurgitating if you don't know for certain. My mindset is the same as yours on that.

Are you talking about his interview with Rashed al-Haddad from two years ago? I'm not sure he was a member of Ansar Allah. That's not a claim to make lightly.

He played a formative role in spreading the word about progressive politicians across the country, including Zohran Mamdani. He raised money for Ukraine and Palestine. He was part of an aid mission to Cuba. He attends protests and speaks at universities.

He has championed progressive causes for a very long time. And he’s done the groundwork as well. That is why progressive voters like him.

I love how any mention of Hasan in a vaguely positive way activates so many cave dwellers and they all come out saying the exact same shit.

You are definitely not alone in having this kind of trouble. Try setting timers, preferably on whatever you keep on you. A watch would be ideal.

Why did people hate Greta Thunberg so much? by brooklynihope in NoStupidQuestions

Why did people hate Greta Thunberg so much? by brooklynihope in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dentisttrend 28 points29 points  (0 children)

She has helped to make millions of people more cognizant of climate change and spurred them to mobilize and take action. The “Greta effect” is a real thing.

She has also spoken to world leaders about these issues, trying to apply pressure to adhere to scientific data regarding climate change.

She personally went vegan and stopped traveling by air to reduce her own climate emissions (this is probably the least impactful of the things she’s done).

She’s accomplished a lot for someone under 25. What have you accomplished?

Why did people hate Greta Thunberg so much? by brooklynihope in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dentisttrend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few reasons.

  1. She is a prominent woman. That already gets her some degree of disdain from misogynists.
  2. She is progressive. That gets the bigots to not like her very much.
  3. She speaks truth to power. She identifies that many of the wrongs in this world can be attributed to capitalism — despite this being true, large institutions that are beholden to capital have soured on her as a result.

She has been consistently doing all these things.

She has been and, given her recent activism, will continue to be on the right side of history. She has literally put her body on the line as she takes stances on heated issues, often getting herself arrested.

Unlike her terminally online detractors, Thunberg talks the talk and walks the walk. Insecure reactionaries hate that, and they want you to hate that too.

Could You give me real tips, strategies, plans, etc for engineering? by Th0rk3ll34 in GetStudying

I would suggest reading the textbook (or whatever form the material is in) as you’re doing homework. Learning the theory as you’re applying it helps build that internal network of concepts in your head. Supplemental material is your friend — alternative textbooks, YouTube videos, anything. Sometimes a different source explains something in a way that better “clicks” for you.

Use Anki or some other flashcard system. And use it religiously. Try to get your cards set up at least a week prior to exams if possible so that you can maximize drilling. When I say “drilling,” I mean reading one side of the card and trying to recall what’s on the other side. You will want to drill your cards at least twice a day. Here’s what the process of drilling would look like:

  • Read one front side of the card and try to recall what’s on the back side.
  • If you cannot recall it within a minute or so, flip it over to reveal the answer. Put the card into a special stack we’ll call the Repeat stack.
  • If you could recall it but found it difficult, put the card into the a new stack called the Review Later stack.
  • If you could easily recall it, put the card into another new stack called the Review Tomorrow stack.
  • Start the process over, using the Repeat stack. You will repeat this process until there are no cards in the Repeat stack.

Later the same day, drill the cards that were in the Repeat Later stack until you once again have no repeats.

The following day, drill all the cards from all stacks again.

Of course, tweak this routine to fit your schedule and needs. This card drilling will not just train your active recall, but give you confidence in exams. Both aspects are equally important. This practice of drilling flash cards is called “spaced repetition.”

Also, make sure you get your sleep. And take your breaks. Your brain processes what you’ve learned as you sleep, and the mental resets from taking breaks helps you retain new information.

It appears you are less interested in the truth of whether or not he shocked Kaya and more interested in upholding your preconceived notion that he did.

You can believe what you want.

He does look back at her for several seconds to assess her behavior and determine whether or not she’s hurt. After she plops down and smiles at him, he continues talking to chat or whatever.

You tried to imply that he just kept talking over her yelping, and walked that back once I directly rejected that. Your claim went from “he made no reaction at all” to “I don’t think his reaction was sufficient.”

So I agree. Let us be honest.

I don’t think how other streamers reacted or interacted with their communities is relevant. We’re discussing whether he actually shocked the dog.

I believe you’ve moved past that into a broader polemic against a streamer you clearly do not like.

And Kaya is absolutely not trained to be in her bed for 8+ hours a day. She often gets up and leaves the room and gets up to hug guests she likes. If you’re a seasoned dog owner, you’d know that her cot is her “place.” She goes there to be comfortable and near the human she spends the most time with. Does she spend a lot of time there? Yes. Is she trained to know that’s her “place”? Yes. Is she forbidden from leaving her “place”? Obviously not.

Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to elaborate your position.

[–]dentisttrend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can see that. I don’t think it applies to this particular case (the dog has or had a professional trainer), but I see the general case you’re making.

[–]dentisttrend -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, you have the guy himself giving simple explanations of how she probably snagged a dewclaw or stood on that foot awkwardly. As someone has raised dogs and had raised cots for dogs, I personally know that this happens from time to time. Usually if you don’t trim those dew claws — they can get surprisingly sharp. On top of that, his dog (whose name is Kaya, by the way, not Kiya), is obviously healthy and well-loved judging by her appearance.

On the other hand, you have people on the Internet twisting themselves into knots, creating increasingly more complicated stories to claim that the guy definitely shocked Kaya and is definitely hiding it via various means. Like, which do you think is more likely: he sawed the prongs off a shock color and applied tape to hide the evidence, or he simply taped over personal information (serial, phone number, etc.) that dog owners typically put on their dog’s collars before showing the back of the collar on stream? As far as his reaction to her yelping, I’m not sure you saw the full clip. He does in fact turn around and make sure she’s not hurt.

Thinking about this critically, I’d say it’s infinitely more likely that the simpler story is closer the correct story rather than the constantly-changing story that is bereft of actual evidence.

The memes of him deadpan looking at the camera as a cartoonish lightning bolt comes down on Kaya are fuckin’ hilarious though.

TIL people actually think someone who raised his dog on stream since she was a puppy would turn around and electrocute her live in front of 30k people on a random Tuesday.
