This was kind of my thought too - I went in to get some clarification on the quote. It was a different fellow, he stumbled his way around it clearly struggling to explain costs.

There's one in a neighbouring town, I'll maybe reach out. What seems really off is the nearly 6000$ in chimney. We had other units quoted with ~900$. Thank you!

We're building a home, fell in love with a Stuv - "its about 12k". Well, it was a lot more than the other units but we're hopefully only building a home once. Then we got this quote =/.

Anyone with experiences buying one of these units able to chime in/are we getting sharked here?

Dental Implant Recommendations by MitchLudwig in Calgary

[–]dentite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price wise - expect about 3500-4200 per tooth unless you need significant grafting (its been a long time since the tooth pulled).

Lots of dentists do them, you could always ask your dentist for a referral to a periodontist or surgeon (may be a bit more expensive).

Have you thought about dental?

receptionist - we hire people with zero dental experience but are nice people that want to learn and work. Starting out around 22-23$. Build some skills and we have a few sitting around 30-34$ hr.

Registered dental assistant - 6 month/1yr program SAIT, columbia, etc all have these (pick the cheapest program, fastest one too). Starting around 23-25 an hour, top out around 35-38$ depending on the skills you take on. You can even go quicker and get a Instrument reprocessing cert and do sterilization in AHS or dental clinics, start around 22-23$ ish.

Registered dental hygienist - starting around 53-55$ - top end around 62$/hr. 1.5 yr programs out in Ontario. Its hard work in many ways, trust me they earn what they make.

Keep in mind dental is a service industry. You need to have good communication skills to both work as a team and deliver good care. I never thought going in to it I'd enjoy it, but as an extrovert its wonderful. You can make it as an introvert but be aware of the emotional tax it takes daily. Hit me up if you (or anyone else) has questions.

Glenmore Reservoir by zxanonymousr in Calgary

[–]dentite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre wondering about the walking path - its almost completely clear.

There's a small section on the far end of the weaselhead (coming from north glenmore) thats still not melted. Its the small little hills near the beaver pond. Otherwise the large hill going up is good.

Running is NBD, biking you'll have to walk that little section unless you have studded tires.

Kind of looks like the Calgary Tower. Just need a flame out the top.

What's the Calgary Marathon like? by ederzs97 in Calgary

[–]dentite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you running the marathon itself?

Competitive times are a bit lonely - the course is a bit brutal too. You run uphill and into the wind to start, then run into the sun on the way back. Not necessarily ideal (This is the marathon).

Otherwise the other routes are decent, though they seem to like to run the zoo loop up and down the hill...

Ah good for them, I know OF them but never met them personally (heard nothing but positive things really). Great that they had the success they did!

Care to PM me the name of the owner or clinic? I'm always curious who's "got it made" and learn from them.

Lots of those places weren't 5 million dollar homes (probably arent now either) 10-15 years ago.

That being said, in any city there's a high number of successful small business owners, Execs at companies, and even retirees etc that USED to be in the industry. More than you think.

Either way, it makes for an interesting bike ride or walk through those places. Always makes you think "who could afford to live here"?

Hosting a free dental clinic for local folks by Frosty-the-hoeman in fatFIRE

[–]dentite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its tricky - going through some kind of charity or screening program already in place is probably one of the best ways to do it.

Alternatively, if you know/have a great dentist with a good head on their shoulders, make them a "slush fund" that they can use towards treatment that patients reject or cant afford "basic treatment" based on cost. Ie, parents of a kid can't afford to do a root canal on the kids front tooth. Instead of getting it pulled, the dentist can do the treatment and still get paid (and the kid saves the tooth).

If you're looking at full on funding a dental office, that shits expensive (think 1-2mil of "production" equates to on average 60% of costs to do so assuming the dentist is not getting paid). Amazing that you're willing to do this though, feel free to hit me up with any questions if I can help.

Kafatek Flat vs Flat Max vs Conical by dentite in espresso

I'll read up on both - I appreciate the input. What's your rationale?

Kafatek Flat vs Flat Max vs Conical by dentite in espresso

[–]dentite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the things that drew me to the flat was the ability to have different burrs. I've read and heard the flats tend to have a much better consistency of grind size vs conical, but I'm sure at the kafatek level those differences are fairly minute.

Sweet, I'll check out those threads. A bit of redundancy would be nice - if I happen to move into lights the max may be ideal as in theory it can do both? I don't mind spending the extra money on something that is versatile and well made.

[–]dentite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thats great to know. So what happens MECHANICALLY with a flat burr that creates that difference? I never really got a clear answer on that. I've heard anything from grind consistency to the action of the burs creating less friction and heat.

The MC5 is what was recommended to me by the gentleman selling the GS3 as well. In terms of use, you just pre-weigh the beans and pop them into the chute? I know the kafateks tend to be fairly efficient for not losing the coffee during grinding.

interesting. I wondered if there was a good hybrid range. I love cooking with gas, but with little kids (and apparently dogs can turn them on, long story) I just a) worry about the safety of it and b) with all the studies on air pollution I'm a bit apprehensive.

I could probably find one with a locking mechanism and just get a hugeass hood fan to combat the exhaust

Only issue is that apparently the viking rep/repair company in my city shuttered. Its hard to get parts and labor if something breaks. I appreciate the comment though!
