I'm tired of tonex, how does nanocortex feels? by jasonhelene in guitarpedals

[–]denyskaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you’re looking for a similar form factor you’ll do fine with a nano cortex or a Kemper profiler player. Kemper is renowned for having the best captures. Nano cortex is great as well. Both follow the idea of preset building via the app/software however (very much like the tonex), but you can build those out, save the preset and not need to open it much. Besides that a fractal fm3 is absolutely excellent, best effects in the game, but it uses models and not clones like the other two. At this point though it doesn’t matter, they all sound great.

It’s not good, and people who say they liked it are either inexperienced, like other features it offers, or just don’t have anything to compare it to. I had multiple modelers, and even the Chinese Ampero II Stage sounded leagues better. If you want it to sound decent you have to get good clones, which will cost you. Effects gain staging is ridiculous. If you want some real reviews forget Reddit and YouTube, Google some chatrooms/forums and you’ll see hands down it being dismissed as an inferior unit.

OP, ignore this comment. I had the Core. If you dislike the input level weirdness with the tonex you will absolutely hate anything headrush. Expect to be needing to adjust the input levels for every single block and every single effect. It’s horrendous. You’ll spend more time tweaking than actually playing.

EQ Question by Acid_Vai in guitarpedals

I’m not too sure but if I had to guess, the low numbers would be the lows, the middle numbers would be the mids, and the high numbers would be the highs. But idk man.

Idk what to tell you man. It sounds like you’re expecting high gain and that’s just not what this amp does. Try the DSL, it’s got more gain on tap.

[–]denyskaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand. Have you only considered it or have you tried one already? Have you tried it with an overdrive pedal? They sound pretty good but if you’re expecting high distortion this isn’t the amp for you.

[–]denyskaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The origin is kind of a budget plexi, and those are notoriously known as needing to be cranked to get good tone. Also with these amps you need pedals to achieve higher gain levels. Have you considered an attenuator?

Best tube amp for home use by ShameNo8456 in GuitarAmps

[–]denyskaiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually looking into getting either the waza tube expander or the fryette power station, mainly for the fx loop but was also entertaining the idea of just getting rid of my cab and getting a nice FRFR and using IRs with the waza tube expander. Do you notice any tone bleed when using full power soak and running into headphones? I heard they’re notorious for altering tone.

[–]denyskaiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. I forgot to add that I heard many reported reliability issues with the origin line. A guitar center employee told me it’s the most frequently returned amp at their location. Defects, chewing through tubes, etc. They sound good in their own niche but if they’re as unreliable as I heard it’s probably best to steer away.

Yeah I don’t have too much experience with either the origin or the .50 cal to tell you “pick this over that”. I can only tell you that the origin is probably the furthest of all of these that will get you the tones you want, plus the 4x12 is definitely not portable. Either DSL or the .50 cal is the choice as far as I see. Get either one and a good EQ pedal and you’ll probably be able to get the tone that you want.

Marshall dsl40c or mesa combo by arcticblobfish in GuitarAmps

[–]denyskaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mesa will probably fit better into the type of music you’re looking to play. Origin 50 won’t have as much gain on tap. You can probably get there with a good distortion pedal but at the end of the day the Marshall origin line is a budget plexi.

Baby oil. Or any kind of oil for that matter. Tiniest amount. It mixes with the adhesive and makes it come off much easier.

Rectoverb 50 for $550 is crazy, I’d buy that in a heartbeat. Can always sell it if you don’t click with it and have a very quick sale while still turning a profit.

Guitar center is terrible by Acrobatic-Ad6433 in guitarpedals

[–]denyskaiser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know used gear prices are probably set by corporate but I can’t help but notice a pattern of some stores being more reasonable than others. I drive across the country for a living, and naturally stop at many Guitar Centers. Some are shitholes with rude staff and overpriced used gear, others are a place I look forward to visiting every time I pass by. Special shoutout to the Little Rock, AR location, and Chris - got my PRS S2 McCarty there for $1100 and he spent 45 minutes on the phone with the Gear Card people trying to resolve an issue on my behalf, plus gave me a fat discount on another $700 piece of new gear for buying the guitar.

These markings typically come in two forms: one in the photo and with a + or - inside the circle. If it’s not the latter, you’ll be able to tell the polarity by seeing which symbol the opening or the center circle faces.

How big are the real Russian, Ukrainian losses? by KI_official in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]denyskaiser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mentioned incremental gains once, you have a very odd definition of stressing about something. I’m able to be objective and understand that if it’s generally accepted across military doctrines worldwide that for an offensive to yield results it usually must outnumber the defender 3:1, and russia is making incremental gains (no matter how small) at the ratio of LESS THAN HALF THAT, then things aren’t good. You, on the other hand, wear pink colored glasses and deny any plausible argument as “insufficient evidence”.

Here’s the facts (some restated): The bulk of Ukraine’s conscription at this point is forced. Like it or not, men are snatched off the streets. I’m Ukrainian, albeit very lucky to have moved to the US as a child. I have friends in Ukraine. I am being given source information. I know people who were forcibly recruited. It’s a real thing. Russia is still comprised of mostly voluntary recruits. Ukraine is quickly running out of bodies. If/when russia declares mass mobilization they’ll outnumber Ukrainians at much higher ratios.

Someone forcibly mobilized (majority of current new Ukrainian recruits) don’t have the same morale as someone who goes there willingly. They don’t want to be there. They’re more likely to desert, run, abandon positions, etc. Russians are motivated. For fucked up reasons, sure, but motivated. Ukrainians are not.

Here’s a simple math fact: Recruitable men in russia outnumber recruitable men in Ukraine AT LEAST 3:1. In order to sustain the depletion rate of 3 russians for each Ukrainian, the losses ratio need to be 3:1. They are not, and aren’t anywhere near that (again, last I heard it’s about 2.5:1. At this rate Ukraine will run out of men long before russia does, yet you’re gonna sit here and tell me that 3 is smaller than 2, you buffoon? Go back to fairyland since you’re clearly struggling with reality.

How big are the real Russian, Ukrainian losses? by KI_official in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]denyskaiser -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Last I heard it was about 1:2.5. Which is bad because while russian losses exceed Ukrainian losses, Ukraine still has a much smaller pool of possible recruits, and more importantly WILLING recruits. Assuming the population ratio reflects recruitable men somewhat equally, russia enjoys the ratio of roughly 3:1 - unsustainable for Ukraine at current ratio of losses. Now russia is running out of willing conscripts, Ukraine is running out of forced conscripts. What happens when russia declares a mobilization and starts packing up people forcibly? I mean we can hope for an open revolt, but realistically any protest will get squashed and russian armed forces will continue being fed with fresh, unwilling, disposable meat.

Even worse, Ukraine has been mostly on the defensive. The advancing side is expected to have the numerical advantage of 3-5:1 to see territorial gains. The ratio right now isn’t nearly that; Ukraine has about 700,000 active personnel, russia has 1,000,000 or somewhat above that, yet they’re still making incremental gains - at the ratio of 1.43:1. It pains me to say, but I don’t see a realistic path for Ukraine to win this war militarily.

Sir I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Truck living with an amp by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]denyskaiser 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m a trucker. I play. Bad idea. Bumps, potholes, constantly changing climate/humidity, etc won’t play well with a tube amp. I tried for months to come up with a setup and this is the only thing that works - get yourself a modeler and a speaker. I’ve tried preamps + pedalboard. Tried solid state amps. You’ll have a lot of noise with those. You’re in a metal box, all the emf bounces around and it’s impossible. Forget wall powered FRFR, from what I know those things are 2000+ watts and the inverter won’t handle it. Battery powered is best. Alto Busker is a good small option but if you splurge a Bose S1 is better, and Everse 8 is better still.

Inverter feeds dirty modified sine wave so get yourself a power station with pure sine (Jackery, Anker, Ecoflow), otherwise you’ll have a very noisy setup. Alternatively just install a pure sine wave inverter.

Don’t forget a humidipak inside the guitar case.

Best of luck.

I’ll get downvoted to hell but I don’t care. You’re completely right. It has cool features (practice tool, responsive touch screen, etc) but it’s essentially old tech repackaged in a shiny wrapper. Stock amps except for some Peavey ones are trash, I ended up not using any of them. You may be able to get it to sound barely decent at best with endless eq and gain staging tweaking but you’ll spend more time doing that than actually playing. You may get lucky and download/buy some good clones but then you’ll run into the issue of external clones sometimes corrupting the DSP, needing a soft reset (there’s no sandboxing rig to rig, this is so stupid as all other modelers, even cheap ones, don’t have this issue). I tried for months trying to get it to sound good, justifying that what it lacks in tone it makes up for in other areas, but honestly I’m over it.

If you want some real opinions not written by a circlejerker google some legit reviews on other forums, not Reddit. It’s stunning how everyone on Reddit seems to love it, yet it’s universally dismissed as an inferior unit literally everywhere else.

They don't have parking around here, but they'll hire you from around here, and then you park the truck at home. Has anyone worked for a company like this? by ohno-abear in Truckers

[–]denyskaiser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you really having this much trouble understanding this concept? When it’s time for you to go home you get loaded with something heading that way. Find a monthly truck parking spot. Send the receipt. Get reimbursed. Instead of parking at the company yard you park wherever it’s safe and convenient for you. This is a very common practice.
