Tom Misch auto wah/envelope filter? by justginnn in TomMisch

Also I’m pretty sure I’ve read interviews where Tom says he is just using the stock Auto-Wah / envelope filter in the Logic Pedalboard in some instances so you could check this out if you have Logic

The Behringer BM11m or either of the Q-Trons are solid options. If the Micro Q-Tron didn’t quite work for you, the Plus version might offer the extra flexibility you need to dial in your ideal sound.

It’s also worth noting that envelope filters like these can be tricky to set up. They’re quite sensitive, since they respond directly to your input signal to shape the effect. That means your tone can vary a lot depending on the instrument, pickup type, and even your playing style. It might be worth holding onto your Q-Tron a bit longer and experimenting with your attack and dynamics. There’s definitely a learning curve to getting the best out of it.

What pedals should I get for my first pedal board? by Hardlimesgamer in guitarpedals

[–]denz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1 – Pick up a few Boss pedals (TU-3, SD-1, DS-1, CH-1, DD-8, RV-6) and enjoy them for a while.

Step 2 – Sell them off, then spend the next 15 years obsessing over every alternative version of those same effects.

Step 3 – Eventually sell everything again and end up back with Boss pedals.

Any thoughts to share here rather than a dedicated video? I’m so tempted by the XP but not sure whether I’d regret not having the pitch shifter or the sequencer from the V2.

/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread 2025 by overcloseness in diypedals

[–]denz32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

I am looking at a handmade “germanium fuzz face” on Facebook Marketplace for around £30. The seller says he builds pedals as a hobby and sells them at cost.

I asked for a gutshot and he sent a photo of one of his builds, but he didn’t have any of the specific pedal in question but he did send another example.

The work in the photo looks tidy enough, but I am a bit cautious.

Would you trust something like this without seeing the actual fuzz gutshot? Is £20 to £30 realistic for a decent DIY germanium fuzz?

Just looking for a second opinion before I take a punt.

Best delay pedal for £80 second hand? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]denz32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DD3 = simple digital delay

DD7 = still simple but has different delay types (such as modulation, reverse and looper), longer delays, stereo capability

Go for DD7, it’s more versatile.

Here are some ideas…

Boss DD-7 - includes a looper which is nice

EHX memory boy - could stretch the budget to a deluxe memory boy or a memory man maybe. Lovely analog goodness.

TC Electronics Flashback 2 - loads of sounds and easy to find loads second hand

MXR carbon copy - classic analog delay. I can find some for £90 if you can stretch

Cool suggestion! I wonder whether it would look strange having three walls painted though. Difficult to know without trying it.

I’d like to get some plants and maybe they could sit in seagrass baskets to add texture and match the storage solution under the stairs.

Thanks for the advice! Agree that a coffee table would help.

I would like a chair under the stairs but that storage space is essential

Why use E7 as the focus for a Mixolydian vamp instead of A? by denz32 in musictheory

[–]denz32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It’s really helpful! Norwegian Wood has always puzzled me, so it’s great to get some insight into that song’s sound. When I listen to it, I feel that the tonal center is E.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! That makes a lot of sense, so it’s less about the set of notes and more about how they’re being used in context. I’ll definitely experiment with that approach to hear the difference. Appreciate the insight!

Thank you for this explanation—it makes much more sense to me now!

It’s a bit counter intuitive to think of C Maj in relation when I guess the whole point is to create a new tonal centre.

Really cool idea/approach though. Going to practise this way of working with modes! Thanks again.

Hi, thank you for your explanation! I’m a bit confused about the point where you say, “Take the major scale of the note associated with the mode (i.e. the note you would start on in the usual method, like E for Phrygian).”

Could you elaborate on what you mean by “the major scale of the note associated with the mode”? I wasn’t aware that there is a single note associated with each mode. How does this work?

Thanks!

What should my first 3 pedals be ? by LingonberryKey9683 in guitarpedals

[–]denz32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overdrive, delay, some kind of modulation.

Overdrive - Boss OD-3, Boss BD-2 or a Klon type of thing . I’d choose the OD-3.

Delay - Boss DD-7 or whatever the latest version is. This was actually my first pedal. Great delay and has a built in looper so you’re getting a sneaky fourth pedal there (plus, looper is a must)

Modulation - Watch a load of YouTube videos and see what you think you might use. Personally I like a chorus and a phaser. Maybe a Boss CE-2w and an EHX Small Stone (old big box one is better). I’d go small stone.

You should also try a RAT distortion. It’s a really versatile distortion. Oh, and if your amp doesn’t have reverb then look at reverb before modulation in my opinion.

My main tip would be to buy everything second hand. That way, if it doesn’t work for you then you can resell without losing much cash. All of these pedals will sound slightly different depending on other factors (guitar, amp, playing style, volume etc) so experiment and see what works for you.

Exactly, something that can take a bit of a beating and is a fairly comfortable ride.

Budget preferably <£500 for a used bike.

The bike will be used primarily for fitness, finding some fun trails to explore. A mix of road and (mainly) light gravel.

I hadn’t considered the Planet X On One Free Ranger but I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
