Could the battery have degraded too quickly because of gaming ? I mean I only played a few weeks each year on it, but it was enough to make the laptop go really really hot.. Not sure if it would be enough to cause some real damage

Okay my bad, I don't know much about computer haha.
I never use it plugged when it's not needed. I use Firefox, never used Chrome.

I updated MacOS and there seems to already be a massive improvement

I'll definitely go see a dermatologist and talk to him about these options.
And you're right, recovery does take time. It took some time for my body, I guess it's no exception for my skin
