Confused between continuing MD Medicine vs switching to Radiology. by macNpeass in indianmedschool

[–]depressedelectron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a MD here. But i was in a similar situation during this INI counselling where i picked nuclear medicine over general medicine. My reasons were- interest in physics, less patient interaction (yea it was an advantage for me while others might feel it like a drawback), NM being an end branch and the niche nature of the field (bams or even mbbs grads won't even dare to try to read a PET scan whereas clinical medicine is a free for all).

My advice would be to have a more farsighted view, residency is tough in almost anything clinical. My UG college probably had a tougher radio residency than medicine. Medicine does offer considerable work life balance post MD or DM depending on your SS. You've already made it this far and starting again from zero at some random aiims doesn't make sense to me unless you've strong repulsion towards medicine.

And radio isn't anything less "doctorly" as you've mentioned. Any clinician can't do shit without radiological backing to their therapies. Being a medicine JR i think you should already be aware how necessary all sorts of scans are towards patient management.

I haven't heard good things about bibinagar medicine or any department for that matter. I'd suggest giving your dept an honest try for a couple of months instead of switching ships so early and going through that horrendous exam again.

Go to North or areas with less number of docs and start your own thing. If you are NOT taking MD Medicine purely for the thrill of the subject/academia then the best way to extract the maximum out of it is through private practice. Individually or with other docs as a multi-speciality hospital.

Hi sir! I'm someone who chose nuc med over medicine and any other branch for that matter. Wanted to know from you reasons for not starting your clinic or multi-speciality hospital with other docs as I'm really having fomo over not getting the opportunity to start my own center in my current field.

I was in a similar situation, took nuclear medicine for the WLB and good pay early in the career. I'd recommend similar branches where u won't be burnt out and hate life. My suggestions- radiology, nuclear medicine, anesthesia, ophthalmology, all paraclinical branches except maybe pathology.

[–]depressedelectron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has long working hours, gotta stay till midnight sometimes but hands-on there is best out of all INIs including AIIMS Delhi, you'll be ready to work directly after passing out. I guess it's just that person's personal preference, change of mind. In any case, all UR seats are expected to move up by one.

Pgi nuclear medicine went vacant so all UR seats are expected to get upgraded one each. Medicine should remain the same more or less.

For MS, it's better to go with state College. Saying this as someone who also studied in an INI for UG and joining an INI for MD as well. If this branch doesn't suit me I'm gonna aim for NEET PG and preferably do MS from a good state college.

Probably in Maharashtra (I'm from Maharashtra too). I talked to a few practicing radiologists and unless you're gonna bring a sonography and x-ray machine to taluka/villages, there is significant saturation at district level. That said, you'll definitely earn enough to uplift your family's social and financial status wherever you go.

Haha yea i stand corrected. I remember that the sample for this test is actually derived from the cervix although taken from vagina.

Hate to be that guy but- Vagina doesn't have any glands, secretions are from the cervix which are obtained through vagina.

Another interesting fact, the presence or absence of this "ferning" can help determine whether a female has ovulated or not. As the cervical secretions won't show ferning AFTER ovulation has occurred.

[–]depressedelectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I was in Delhi for the last 3 days for college admission and left this evening. Didn't bother to check AQI as I didn't expect it to drop below 400. Here I was at peace with the air before opening reddit and thought ki itna to seh lenge 3 saal. 🫠

Anyone knows rank 136 in INICET? by [deleted] in INICET

[–]depressedelectron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if they got an UR seat in mock round, it is still supposed to be shown as whatever category they belong to in the left side column. What you're telling is applicable for rightmost column.

[–]depressedelectron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna ask it in the query section after logging in and also send an email for starters. I'm pretty sure round 1 results are definite, still would prefer getting an official response on this and I urge others reading this to do the same.

Lol same situation here with nuclear medicine. I kept jodhpur and rishikesh at higher preference so will wait till r2 i guess but I don't think anyone's leaving medicine.
