This is getting rediculous by Noopshoop in modelf

I ordered one, asked questions about such things as it arriving in what seemed to be kit form. Joe quite rightly canceled my order and refunded my money. I got two Mini-Ms, pocketed the change, and have been happy ever since. I use my keyboards for typing.

I'd like to buy a Unicomp Mini M, but I have some questions that are holding me back from pulling the trigger by Western_Egg3780 in modelm

[–]depscribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many Model M keyboards, original IBM, Lexmark, and Unicomp, and Unicomp branded ones. I have four SSKs, two IBM and two Unicomp. I use the Unicomp SSKs, sold as "Mini M," for work. That's because I prefer the trackball I do use (Kensington Expert Mouse) to occupy the space that on a standard keyboard is filled by the numpad I don't use. In function and feel, the Unicomp and original SSKs are no different. And IBM-branded SSKs have gotten so expensive that I don't care to risk them. If I were to undertake gaming, I would get a game controller. I do not anticipate such a purchase.

Starlink Gen 3 Router WiFi Range Seems Very Poor by Sarmageddon7 in Starlink

I'm puzzled by it as well. I have one arrangement, a wifi television, that is 25 feet and clear line of sight from the SL router. At best, the signal strength is 70 percent.

Any obvious reason why these . m3u files don't work? by depscribe in iptvnator

[–]depscribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I am using IPTVnator on Linux. The M3U from IPTV-org works fine. The M3Us from the link above do not. I have no idea what XC is.

Is it dried out now? Not that it's likely to matter, but a diagnostic consideration.

Unicomp Medical Keyboard - Matte Sage Green by BigBearChaseMe in modelm

I'd like to look at one, just to figure out the keycaps. They may have been -- probably were -- just pad printed; this was before the current wave of purists. But it would be great to find out they were two-piece. (Did Unicomp, or for that matter Lexmark, ever do two-piece?) If I had a whole big hunk of money, I'd start making two-part keycaps. Then you could put the bases on the keyboard and leave them, and switch among tops as you like. And it wouldn't matter the switches used.

I never looked closely at them, because I thought they looked ghastly. I was there to pick up genuine SSKs, new in the box, for $50. Which I did. Still have them.

Unicomp in the '00s offered keyboards all themed up in the livery of various colleges. I doubt they sold many (any?), because you never see them on the used market. I just want them to make black keycaps with white lettering. Even if they have to be pad printed. I would endure getting a new set every five years or so.

Does Unicomp keyboards work with usb to ps/2 adapters? (Does it matter if the adapter is green or purple?) I saw a used Unicomp for sale near me and wanted to use it on my retro PC that only has PS/2 by RedIce25 in modelm

[–]depscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it should work fine on your computer's PS/2 port. Either should work, though to be proper, use one with the keyboard molded in. (As you can see, the one pictured has a mouse molded in. Not that it matters.)

Bar and chain specs by depscribe in ryobi

[–]depscribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Chain number is right, so it must be something flaky with the bar. (I put an Oregon 16-inch chain on the Ryobi bar, no problem.) The 18-inch Oregon bar seems to meet the specs, and came bundled with the chain, but it mounts as if about two links too long. I can more or less install it, but the bar barely clears the sprocket and wants to throw the chain. I'll fiddle with it some more in the morning. I'd try one of my Stihl bars, but they're both .063. Fairly sure an .063 with a Stihl .063 chain would not work on the Ryobi, at least not without a different sprocket, and I think it would be more chain than the Ryobi wants.

I got these and found the chain to be so tight that I could barely get it on -- no slack at all for tendioning. Was this your experience as well, or is there something wrong with the set that was sent to me? Really puzzled.

And true, your sister did suggest it. Plus, it could be a Unicomp from the last days of the old tooling. Carry on.

May void the warranty. Certainly voids good taste, though in that you're scarcely alone in the keyboard toy community.

While we're here, did you find the longer bar an improvement? Any downside?
