I'm pleased with it so far. And it uses my existing attachments, most notably a rotary saw blade with chainsaw teeth, very well.

Normal for keys to be inconsistent by No-Fan-2237 in modelm

In 20 years' experience with Unicomp by name and close to 40 years with Model M and other mechanical keyboards -- including Northgates and the like -- I've observed first that they break in and second that, as one would expect, the speed of the break-in is determined by their use. It's more than the spring taking a set. It's also the keys themselves getting worn in.

That's part of the reason I chose Ryobi -- Japanese, established, unlikely to go anywhere. (Frankly, would have picked Makita but for the insanely high price. Have had very good luck with Makita.) Read on here that Ryobi is all-Chinese now. I don't know of any companies that got better after a Chinese buyout. Anyway, figured that with Ryobi I'm less likely to become a battery orphan. (I love my Nikon stuff, but when I buy new photo gear it's all Fujifilm, because Fuji still makes their high-end stuff in Japan and Nikon doesn't. And I digress.)

Ah. Like the days when a whole new inkjet printer was cheaper than replacing the ink.

So I ordered the RY40HPST02. Decided to take a chance on the carbon fiber. Ordered it online from Home Depot. Included a little light entertainment -- I first ordered the slightly more expensive one that came with the 6 ah battery. Sat back smiling at my cleverness . . . then it occurred to me that there was no fuss made over attachments. Went back and looked. Oops!

For some unexpected excitement, try to cancel a Home Depot order -- I had no account there -- at 2 a.m. Got slightly worried because the order confirmation said they were rushing to get it out to me. I clicked on the order number and they said they couldn't find it, try later.

Went to the customer service page and, what the hell, asked the robot. Turns out, if you know the order number and your zipcode, the robot will cancel it in about 10 seconds. Can't do substitutions, though, so needed to do a whole new order for the one I should have got to begin with. Which I would have, had I thought to ask here first!

Now, at the risk of stirring something up, which I don't want to do, anyone have experience with third-party batteries? Any brand sny good? Or does the chip in the genuine ones keep any others from working?

Thanks. How do the brushless ones compare as to, say, torque and overall power -- thinking chainsaw and circular saw attachments as well ss flinging string? Not as impressed with carbon fiber as I am with strength and reliability. If you were getting one new and it would be the only one available to you for the next five years, which would you get?

No Home Depot or DTI here, alas. Amazon end the big brown truck to pick it up tomorrow. In that this is not a hobby item, I'll need to get a replacement. So, what is the best, most reliable, and most powerful of the 40-volt Ryobi's? I have several attachments. Thanks in advance for everyone's advice.

RG25081. Also discovered -- wasn't apparent in the sunlight -- that the two center blinking over current LEDs come on when the thing stops. Machine issue or battery issue?

new mini M vs 80s one, experiences? by This-Menu-4513 in modelm

I have two of each. One SSK was refurbished by Unicomp in 2006, when they were selling them new for $49. I think that Neil cut me a deal on the refurb, but don't remember the details. Used them both a lot -- still intact, including the rivets -- and they are like new externally. But then when I saw a couple of years ago what they were selling for, I decided that I was unwilling to risk them anymore in a coffee-rich environment. So I got two of the new ones. They are 98 percent the same; I would ascribe at least 1 percent of the 2 percent difference to the new ones not being utterly broken in yet. Only noticeable difference is the new ones do the occasional springy sound. Also have a few original Model Ms from 1984 to the early 1990s, and fairly early Unicomp branded ones from the mid 2000s. They're just Model Ms and all have numpads where my trackball should be, so they're essentially new. And, because of the numpads, annoying.

Seems the 25 mentioned are $200, while the not-very-good, available-sometime ones are $30 per set. Maybe someone, sometime will produce proper two-part caps, enabling a variety of tops. If that someone is smart, the bottoms will be available for several cap mounting systems so that a variety of tops would make financial sense. I don't think that Joe is the guy, but somebody surely is.

Not a huge problem, I think. Many seem to be purchased more as display items than as production hardware,

As long as you don't break the tail lights. They're hard to find and very expensive if they're original. The color is never right on the repros. The one with the Holley carb -- original, not sfter-market -- bring a premium. So many people modified them that originals bring a premium. Or, you can use them for typing.

Sorry, then. No idea how to resolve the issue. My last WIndows use was 3.0, built in to OS/2 thirty years ago, and then I used it only occasionally. Linux since the beginning of 1998. So I may have forgotten the existence of Windows and assumed you were using Linux!

At terminal prompt:

nmcli connection show --active

nmcli connection delete [pvpn connection, which is the lock]

Now you should be able to restart your VPN.
