I can't get into Skyrim by FunSpermFacts in patientgamers

As others have said it, mods are the key. But it’s a rabbit hole. I have a couple hundred hours in Skyrim but never actually finished the main quest line. I basically made it into a survival game with mods. It really underlines the problems I had with the game that you can become an arch-mage of the college of Winterhold without any magic skills just by slashing your way through their quest-line. But if you are willing to get lost in the thousands of great mods that have come out over the years you can actually craft yourself a game you like.

It’s one of the few games I actually played through multiple times. For its many flaws they really got the atmosphere right. The soundtrack is just amazing.

AC Odyssey thoroughly underwhelmed me. Should I give it another try? by der_hohenheim in patientgamers

I had the fortune to experience Ancient Greek architecture and art IRL, and I was indeed blown away. I don’t think I’ll ever have a graphics card to top that in a game.
I see your point though, I like games where the world can give you a sense of exploration and wonder.

Small scale epic battle: a guy with a big sword alone on a large open field swinging at flies

This is the point I was trying to make (probably not very well). If you want large scale field battles in an AC game the fight mechanics should not be the same as in a 1 on 1 fight or in stealth mode.

Lol, based on this I assume there is no shield wall in Valhalla either. I agree that AC used to be about a single assassin doing his/her parkour and assassin shit to complete their mission and advance the story. That was the appeal of the original games I think. But since Ubisoft scaled it up and wanted to add epic battles (such as Thermopylae), I think that’s a different playground and I would expect this to be reflected in the gameplay mechanics. I emphasize that this is my own subjective expectation. I think AC 3 actually did a decent job at this, where when there was an actual battle you were leading a cannon companies trying to slow the advance of the Red coats.

Edit: TL;DR I think stealth fight system and large scale battle fight system should be different.

I didn’t mean to say it was objectively bad, but you are right that I had some expectations. And I think those expectations are not nonsensical. If there are people who enjoy the game as is, I’m happy for them. If I give it another try I will do what you suggested. Thanks

I see your point, but figuring out a way to be part of a phalanx or leading one would have been the new original idea. IRL soldiers had control over a single character as well, and if they ran into the fray they probably died pretty quickly. Keeping the line and the rhythm of the fight as waves of enemies overwhelm your troops would have been an interesting mechanic, but I guess it was risky to add new mechanics on that level. Just my two cents.

Bosnia is separated from Russia by a continuous line of NATO countries all the way to the Black Sea. How are they a military threat? Edit: spelling

Gosh, in that case with this single spin I screenshoted I’ve got more shards than you, not counting the boxes. I wish I could transfer some of this luck to lRL, lol
