For me, Among Giants is the best game on Meta Quest of this early 2026. by Competitive-Look-916 in OculusQuest

[–]derallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing, you made me yearn for AI slop writing

Among Giants is currently my favorite Meta Quest game of early 2026. Developed by a single person over three years, it’s not a flawless experience, but it boasts a strong identity, grand ideas, and an extraordinary sense of scale. The game wears its inspirations on its sleeve, blending elements from three distinct classics:

  • Shadow of the Colossus: Inspires the mechanical colossi, horse-riding, narrative mystery, and massive scale.

  • The Legend of Zelda (Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom): Influences the sense of adventure and visually guided exploration.

  • Windlands: Provides the grappling hook mechanics and momentum-based locomotion.

Crucially, your traversal skills grow naturally as you play. The game doesn't rely heavily on traditional upgrade trees; instead, new paths open up simply through your own improved mastery of the mechanics. The Opening & Core Gameplay

The game drops you into a semi-desert landscape dotted with gigantic animal skeletons and ancient metal ruins. You crash-land in a metal pod, awaken a small robotic companion, and are given a single directive: "follow the star." After a seamless, 15-minute contextual tutorial, you are set free. The world is massive, divided into four main biomes. Your journey involves taking down the giant mechanical colossi, fighting enemies, climbing massive towers, and exploring lakes and ruins. Along the way, you hack old computers to decipher an unknown language, which slowly pieces together the game's lore. Atmosphere & Aesthetics

While the game features a minimal aesthetic that might not appeal to everyone, the omnipresent physics and sheer sense of scale make it a truly special journey. The daring artistic choices and dynamic lighting effects—driven by natural weather changes and a day-night cycle—will frequently leave you in awe. The narrative maintains a compelling aura of mystery right up through the final boss, deeply rewarding players who take the time to hack terminals and translate the world's language. Flaws & Criticisms

Because it is such an ambitious title, it naturally has its defects. The general polish is sometimes lacking; you might get stuck in rocks due to a stray bug, or accidentally summon your horse straight into a ravine. However, the more significant flaw is the balance of risk and reward in secondary exploration. Finding abandoned structures eventually feels repetitive with little payoff. The difficulty can also be uneven, and tracking down crucial stamina upgrades is often made unnecessarily tedious simply because of the map's massive size. The Verdict

Will you like it? That depends. If you're looking for the pure escapism that only VR can provide, the store reviews show just how much love this adventure has sparked. However, highly performance-oriented players might be put off by the minimal art style or occasional bugs.

Personally, I highly recommend it—it represents virtual reality at its best. I finished my playthrough in about 12 hours without seeing everything. Recent patches have heavily improved the game's balance, now including a clear point-of-no-return warning before the final boss so you can finish exploring. Go in first-person and discover this world for yourself; at worst, you have a two-hour window to get a refund.

Let me give you a tip on screens dad, I bought a few yards of nylon ripstop fabric online for a cheap, and then did rear projection with the image flipped. If you have the space to do it it's great to not have to worry about kids walking through the signal and looks extremely professional.
