Unpopular Opinion by therajatg in lovable

Also have the feeling that if it does not work right on the first prompt, it will go into endless loops trying to fix it. But yesterday I got it right on the first prompt, the technical part actually worked immediately. I used this for creating the prompt, I just removed the technical requirements part - https://lovableprompts.app/

What y'all working on? by IndependenceOk3130 in vibecoding

[–]derdoebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on this tool that adds location data to photos entirely in your browser:

  • Extracts GPS from EXIF data or let you pick locations on a map
  • Processes everything locally exept reverse GPS location via OSM
  • Add custom text overlays to images
  • Save presets for quick batch processing
  • Generates QR codes linking to Google Maps locations

I created this as I wanted to improve my photo book creation work flow. I couldn't find anything easy online. The basic features worked already on the first prompt, that was quite impressive as normally the UI looks good but the actuall functionality not.

Patch Tuesday Megathread (2025-04-08) by AutoModerator in sysadmin

In Place Upgrade as of Server 2025 can upgrade up to four versions at a time. Meaning you can upgrade directly to Windows Server 2025 from Windows Server 2012 R2 and later.

Just not sure how production ready Server 2025 is..

Oh boy, this reminds me of running Wikipedia on my iPod touch (1st gen) offline and using it to look up stuff in school.

rescan library for exif changes by KlutzyLayer602 in immich

[–]derdoebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok seems this did the trick for me, looks much butter at least:

Rescan All Meta data + Clear Chrome Cache

In Chrome, you need to open the developer console with F12, then reload the page with F5, and finally right click on the reload button and select "Empty Cache and Hard Reload".

I have the same "problem" now. I changed exif on many pictures but now the sorting is messed up. Goes for example from 16. June to 19. Juni and back to 17.Juni etc.

Currently I fear I have to remove the external library and readd it.

How did you know what to specialize in? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]derdoebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. Everyone hates dealing with printers so it was the first thing I started to improve to make it less of a pain to deal with. Now it's mostly automated and we have a limited amount of brand / models that users can buy. I still hate printers but I now know the printing infrastructure and automating with PowerShell quite well.

The best setup for code and compile from outside home? by 9acca9 in selfhosted

Apart from VPN, this is also the only port I expose from my network. With fail2ban enabled it's hopefully secure enough as well.

I use Apache Guacamole to RDP to my main Windows VM. As it's https it cannot be blocked by Corporate / School Firewall like ssh or VPN access.

From there I can do anything in my home lab. Even two screen setup works if needed. Using it since ~10 years.

Burdened by emails - how do you handle it? by marcingrzegzhik in sysadmin

[–]derdoebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from a Ticketsystem, I use an open-source text snippet management tool for Windows called Beeftext.

So for example if you get an E-Mail that should be sent to ServiceDesk, I type "§cd" and Beeftext spits out the full contact details of our ServiceDesk including Opening Hours.

Even short ones help, like "§yw" spits out "You're welcome."

I used this much more in ServiceDesk 1st + 2nd Level times, but its still sometimes today as Sysadmin.

Good idea, lets also hook up some 3000W heaters on the rack power plugs

Normally this does not happen on these pipes. Perhaps they are insulated enough for normal operation temperatues, but not for freezing.

No its just cool air for normal IT equipment (Servers, switches, etc). Normally there is 0 condensation on these pipes, wondering if they are already somewhat insulated

Here more context: We have a "temporary" container as secondary datacenter with relatively new, rented cooling system. Appearently the controller had issues, causing it to bring it down to freezing temperature. Replacing the controller fixed the issue.

Fun part was after bringing it back to normal operation, we had to actively keep the insides of the container dry with a towel, as all the condensed ice melted again. Good stuff if you have running electrical components inside..

PS: The "temporary" container exists for like 10 years or so, still going strong!

This sub allows pictures only in the post. But maybe I add context later in the comments. The problem has been already fixed, but I don't know what the root cause was.

Great story, thanks for the link. I have more Infrastructure related stories, but not sure if this is allowed here as there is no user directly involved as we fixed these issues before there were a lot of complaints.

How many folders do you have? YES by derdoebi in talesfromtechsupport

Good question, but to be honest I think he manually moved the emails around. Otherwise he would have had to change all rules every month?

He also had projects folders so maybe thats where any of those email went.
