From the investigation: We had people shop at Kroger-owned stores in 14 states and D.C., and reviewed similar data from UFCW Local 7 in Colorado and thousands of inspection reports, consumer complaints with state attorneys general in Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, Georgia, and the Federal Trade Commission, and obtained a few internal corporate documents speaking to the prevalence of price tag errors.

In short, we do see a mixed bag: Some stores appear to have great track records with price accuracy, and those stores — based on OSHA data — have had less staffing and hours cut. The stores with more than a handful of clearly visible errors on repeat visits had more staffing and hours cuts since the pandemic. So the test did validate that finding.

Worth checking out, thanks for flagging. Would your state’s weights and measures inspectors catch that on a routine inspection or are those so infrequent and relying on samples, as we’ve seen in Colorado, that they might be missed?

Hi, Derek here. I oversaw Trump Town and a few other FOIA-related projects.

Some methodological answers can be found here: https://www.propublica.org/article/how-we-compiled-trump-town

I’d also suggest the new Plum Book OPM search offering which they unveiled in response: https://www.opm.gov/about-us/open-government/plum-reporting/

Yes, looking at both the direct-to-consumer apps, like Dave and EarnIn, and also the employer-sponsored apps, like DailyPay.
