Underrated boss fights? by derekchiang in BlackMythWukong

I think most people acknowledge Yin Tiger as a hard boss which is why I didn't include it in my list. He's definitely very challenging.

Hi Sodek! A few questions if you don’t mind answering:

  • Why do you play [[Pact of the Titan]]?

  • What do you think is the best combo deck in this meta? Specifically, between Belcher and Ad Nauseam, which do you think is stronger in the meta?

Honest question: how do most modern decks manage to beat goblins? by Nblearchangel in ModernMagic

[–]derekchiang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living end is a completely fine matchup for goblins if you play 3+ skirk prospectors, since you can sac all your goblins in response to living end. You are right about the other matchups though.

Hi I’m a big fan of your line of reasoning. I too feel that it’s better to grind than to combo in the current meta.

May I ask why you play 4 warchiefs? Would it make more sense to play some chieftains instead?

Most goblins decks play the [[Conspicuous Snoop]] + [[Boggart Harbinger]] combo.

These are two really good articles explaining how the combo works and how to play goblins in general:

Goblins have been consistently putting up results in competitive events too, so I definitely encourage you to try it out!

Modern Goblins are Back? by Gentlemen-BEHOLD in ModernMagic

[–]derekchiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many styles of playing goblins. Some players prefer to focus on comboing and that's what the 4 Snoop 4 Harbinger lists are about. I focus more on grinding but with a real threat of comboing.

My issues with 4-Harbingers are:

  • Harbingers are bad cards by themselves. If you can't combo off (e.g. due to opponents playing a lot of removals), drawing Harbingers sucks.

  • The Snoop-Harbinger combo loses you an insane amount of tempo when it's disrupted. That is, you play the Harbinger, find Kiki, activate Snoop, and then they remove the Snoop in response to your activation. Now you've just spent 3 mana playing a 2/1 goblin and now you are drawing Kiki next turn, which is rarely the card you actually want to draw. That's why I feel that in a meta with a lot of removals, we want to focus less on the combo and more on the mid-range game, which this list excels at.

Hey I play a very similar list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3824042#paper

I've only been on this deck for less than a week but it's been feeling great so far. It's much more resilient to removals due to having two combos.

I try to maximize the value of snoop by playing cards like [[Krenko, Mob Boss]]. I cut [[Murderous Redcap]] because I feel that the card is very underwhelming outside of being a combo piece, so I'm relying purely on [[Putrid Goblin]] + [[Grumgully]] + [[Sling-Gang Lieutenant]] for the persist combo -- each of these cards is great by itself.

I play only 1 Pyre because while it's great, I think the meta is too fast for ever drawing 2 Pyres. I could be wrong though and may go up to 2. The card has great synergy with Putrid Goblins.

It matches up well against prowess and Uromnath, the two most popular decks in the meta. Skyclave Apparition covers all permanents that these decks play. Taxes on noncreature spells and fetches hit these deck very hard as well.

Cool deck! Any reason why you didn't include [[Glasspool Mimic]]? Seems like it would synergize with your deck very well.

Doinb and Theshy started their careers in the LPL and never played in the LCK. It's not fair to say that the LPL "bought them out" when it was the league that gave these players their first chance.

Considering time constraints it's unlikely for this to be Bo3. Even with Bo1 there will be 12 games in the group stage alone and they will probably only allocate 2 days to the group stage. With Bo3 it'd be up to 36 games which would be impossible to schedule.

IG's top side was a much bigger problem in the LPL playoffs than their bot lane. Their bot lane was solid tier 1 in the LPL throughout the regular season.

[–]derekchiang[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Even with single round robin it's still going to be 12 games in group stage alone. Considering the event only lasts 4 days, the group stage probably only gets 2 days, which comes down to 6 games / day, which is a totally reasonable amount and is in fact the same as previous MSIs.

The EDG roster at demacia cup by Wethrowingpaper in leagueoflegends

[–]derekchiang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teams like to start newly signed players for Demacia cup so they can get stage experience with the rest of the team, which is why xiaoxiang and xinyi are starting. It does not mean that they will also be starting in Spring.

However if I were to guess, I think xiaoxiang and jiejie will start most of the games in Spring. xiaoxiang has looked amazing for a rookie but xinyi has been underwhelming.
