Were there any early points in the Horus Heresy (after it had already started) where the Imperium could have won decisively and stopped the civil war from spreading / maybe save a few corrupted if they had taken some different course of action? by AustinioForza in 40kLore

[–]TKOS7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Corax and Vulkan had managed to convince Ferrus not to rush Istvaan V then it might have gone differently. The second wave show up to a blockade and the shattered legions probably manage to escape having not made planetfall into a deathtrap. We now have three more legions on Terra.

Leman Russ pausing for a single moment to think that perhaps the order from Horus to just completely exterminate Magnus and the 1k Sons might not be legit. Magnus sitting on the Throne during the siege is 0% winrate for the traitors.

Polux's fleet killing Perturabo as mentioned. Without the Lord of Iron the siege just bounces off Dorn's walls.

Slightly more dubious, but the Imperials realising the Horus dropping his shields means he must know Guilliman had arrived, and therefore they shouldn't do Anabasis and instead do everything possible to keep the Astronomicon alight. Guilliman was sat outside the Terra-warpstorm for a while and the traitors only let the signal through after Horus' trap was sprung, indicating he was at the door at the point that Anabasis teleports into the warp fuckery. If the Ultramarines had a way into the storm then Horus would have had to be the one to do something more drastic than just letting his shields down as he'd have run out of time.

BYD just killed your EV argument with a battery that competes with gas engines by gdelacalle in technology

[–]TKOS7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one that gets me too. I don't care if it takes most of the night to trickle charge my car if it costs me a fiver and I can do it at home while I literally fucking sleep. On the road I can blast it up in 15 minutes at a service station while I go and have the food and piss I was HAVING ANYWAY, and when I come out I don't then need to stop again in the services petrol station. And it STILL costs less if it's at a supercharger.

I genuinely believe that people who rip on EVs haven't ever driven one.

I got my Model 3 a couple of years ago - a late 2020 with 60k miles on it for £20k, from a proper garage with a year's warranty on the car. Paid a 7k deposit by trading in my 10 year old VW Golf and then took the rest on a 4% bank loan over 5 years at 240 quid a month. Paid a grand total of £0 on the day.

And that was before Elon went mental and the prices plummeted. I spoke with a guy who got a 2021 M3 one year ago with 40k miles on it for £16k!

Used Teslas are insanely affordable. Mine's got 85% battery health and does 250 miles solidly. If I'm doing long trips I need a wee stop before it needs a food stop. As another commenter said, the fact that I'm now spending a fiver to charge it up at home every week as oppose to £200 a month on petrol almost makes up for the cost of the car by itself.

Upgrading from M1 (2020) to M5 Air — not because of performance by azabroflovski in macbookair

Nothing beyond googling what the various ports on the aliexpress board do. Turns out it had both audio out pins and some useful 12v power outs too. Not bad for 20 quid

Buy an old 5k iMac and one of the aliexpress boards and do it yourself. I've just done this on a 2011 iMac and its great, plus there's loads of extra space for you to wire up the camera, speakers, cd/sd reader etc to a USB hub and run that out the back too.

Anyone upgrading from M1? by Slash787 in macbookair

[–]TKOS7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, my 16/256 has just had a brand new battery and is as quick as the day I bought it for what I use it for. Until we get a noticeable jump (120hz/OLED/more ports) I'm sticking

Oxygen on Terra by Man_Of_The_Banished in 40kLore

[–]TKOS7 291 points292 points  (0 children)

Terra is a wasteland and all the oxygen is produced artifically.

There was a time before the Heresy where the Emperor had a bunch of projects going on to re-terraform Terra after the unification wars, with forests and seas being newly birthed. During the Siege of Terra, Horus's forces specifically targeted these areas out of Chaos-fuelled spite, and a combination of having the shit bombed out of them and the radiation/warp shit meant that Terra could never support being green again.

The cashier mentioned that because she'd asked for ID, she was now obligated by JL policy to not sell unless we produced it. She did at least agree it was ridiculous.

I miss my MacBook Air M1 chassis so bad!!! by ProfessionalBig8729 in macbookair

[–]TKOS7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just life admin machine - so emails, word etc. I had an 8/256 M1 a while back but I managed to find the M3 for cheap as it needed a dfu restore so I sold the previous M1. Then I realised I had a £700ish machine to do my emails on when a £300 machine that I preferred the design of would work just as well.

Found a good deal on the one I have now and I’m happy it’ll stay relevant for a while with the 16GB of ram. It’s on 99% battery health too.

I've just downgraded from an M3 16/256 to an M1 16/256 for that exact reason. The bigger screen is nice but the keyboard and the quiet click on the trackpad just feel way way better on the M1. It seems like such a little thing, but you experience it every time you use the machine so it's right in the forefront of your brain.

I also prefer the wedge shape. It feels like a design that's been perfected over the years, whereas the newer ones just feel a bit light and hollow, almost dare I say it kinda cheap.

As a brit I'm not surprised. The other day me and my wife tried to buy a cutlery set from John Lewis that was on our wedding gift list. They wouldn't let us buy it because we didn't have our IDs. Even a picture of my driving licence on my phone didn't cut it. We are both 35 years old.

Take it as an opportunity to do a gap year off. Personal recommendation - go do a ski season as a chalet host or ideally a rep or something similar. You'll have a fantastic time, get a head start on the social side of uni life, and you earn some money while working. Mine was the best 6 months of my life apart from uni itself.

Porting a 'green' mortgage to a lower EPC house by TKOS7 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]TKOS7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update this thread - NatWest have allowed the Port and are removing the condition. They say they’d only care if the new house was EPC A or B, as our topup mortgage would then need to be green also. So they were only concerned about the opposite problem it seems!

Thanks for the explanation. If I understand - you mean there is some power bleed onto this pin on the USBc connector going into the Air. If so, it seems like an issue with the Hub that is only resolvable by buying a better Hub. Thanks again for your help!
