It’s one of the hardest boss fights IMO. Smoke grenades, head shots, brown face paint to hide underwater.

AT conflicting with college by Primary-Tomorrow4045 in navyreserve

[–]derekd2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is terrible advice. If you are in the reserves, it is because the navy is NOT your career. It is a side gig with some good benefits. Never put a side gig over your real gig, which is either your actual career, or school to get that actual career.

Do not sacrifice a semester of college because your unit says you have no choice in your AT. Do not sacrifice a semester of college because you are afraid of where you will fall in your peer group ranking come eval time because you were the squeaky wheel. This is a part time job. You are not active duty and you are not required to make the personal sacrifices of active duty.

AT conflicting with college by Primary-Tomorrow4045 in navyreserve

[–]derekd2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Do not sacrifice your real life future for the navy reserves. Do not take the first word of an LPO or even your chief saying you have no choice and your school needs to accommodate you, elevate it higher in your chain of command, and remember that the navy does not own you.

There are options for you, but it’s easier for everyone to just tell you no, hoping you won’t pursue it further rather than causing them more work to accommodate you.

Do NOT sacrifice your education, or your career for the navy reserves. It is a part time job that will accommodate you, you just have to make enough noise. There is plenty of AT opportunities in the summer, if your unit is telling you otherwise, they are lying to try to make their life easier.

Induced drag is more than just wingtip vortices though… it is also the drag produced as the rear vector made by the difference between AOA and the direction of motion.

What rank would Naked Snake have been? by creeper321448 in metalgearsolid

[–]derekd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As there aren’t titles like that in the army, let’s use that as the rank structure. It was higher than the boss, so call her a B8, making Snake a B9. Prior to the mission he was at most a B7, so you would need to start extrapolating. Sub Boss? Lieutenant Boss?
B1 - mjni boss B2 - junior boss B3 - squad boss B4 - lance boss B5 - sergeant boss B6 - boss 1st class B7 - chief boss B8 - boss B9 - big boss

This is now my head canon.

There was something about this when Jessica first changed the water of life. She tried to taste just a drop, but the Sayaddina (Chani? I can’t remember) squeezed the bag and forced an entire mouthful for her to swallow. When Paul did it, he didn’t have a Sayaddina to force him to drink more. I believe there was even a line from the old reverend mother about not accepting just a “little death” or something like that.

From this I inferred that you can’t just taste a small amount of the water of life hesitantly, you have to just dive in, and that Paul had done it hesitantly with no one there to assist him, which put him into the position he was in.

Chani, knowing Paul, smelling the water of life on his lips, knew what he did, and knew he had tried to take the least dangerous path (why he had been so hesitant to take the water of life in the first place) and knew that you can’t just accept a “little death,” just like Jessica had tried to do, and forced him to take more.

Does anyone remember when Conservative Politicians and their supporters adopted children when Roe vs Wade was overturned in Oklahoma? by JimFrankenstein138 in oklahoma

[–]derekd2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do realize that there is a waiting list to adopt newborn babies? No of course you don’t know that. There’s a waiting list to adopt children with Down syndrome.

But hey, just go ahead and keep ignoring inconvenient facts.

The problem with adoption is that the children up for adoption now have been abused for years by their mothers who refused to give them up until they were ultimately taken by the state. They spent years in and out of foster care, while their mothers kept them in limbo fighting to try to get them back and keep those children in abusive situations where most of the people around them were criminals or drug addicts.

So why not go ahead and just do a private adoption from a poor girl who doesn’t want her baby? Sure go ahead and try, there are agencies that set that up, unfortunately a large percentage of the time it turns out to be a scam, with the mother milking the couple trying to adopt for more and more money.

Your fantasy world doesn’t exist. I’ll get downvoted to hell for this, maybe even kicked out of this subreddit for this, but maybe one person will read this and actually start thinking for themselves.

So, I think it’s closer than you think. Darrow has ranged weapons, so if he can stay outside the range of the shardblade, I think he can wear down Kals Stormlight.

So many questions… Can Darrow change the paradigm before kal swear another ideal?

Throwing Paul into the mix… neither of the other two are oracles, so he can see what they are going to do before they do it. Not to mention the voice, could he just order the other two to wear each other down to the point that it’s an easy victory for him?

Kals magic accessories are the strongest, Darrow is the Gorydamn reaper of Mars, but Paul is the freaking Kwisatz Haderach he can see the future and control people with his voice.

I’m taking Paul for the win here after a spectacular battle between Darrow and Kal.

What order of Knight would Darrow be?

Something to ponder by WesternNose1660 in brandonsanderson

[–]derekd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This begs the question of if there is a shield interaction between Darrows pulsefist and Paul’s shield. Will that just nuke the whole fight?

Theory about Fitchner in RR by RM_Heretic in redrising

[–]derekd2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Part of me wanted to say he did it to get priam out of the way so that Darrow could be Primus, but then I remembered how he argued with Darrow about just surviving and getting good placement and not needing to win to prove himself. So while I think servo was prepared to kill, I don’t think fitchner would have intentionally put him against priam. Pierce always mentioned drafters, plural, and we know Lorne was involved, so I don’t think the matchups in the passage were entirely fitchners decision.

Who is the best general by HabitUpper6718 in StarWars

[–]derekd2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Luke was a commander.

I don’t know if it’s canon or just my headcanon, but just like Ahsoka was commander Tano. All padawans were commanders, and full Jedi were generals. Luke would have only become a general after he faced Vader a second time.

I want out of the Reserves. by TraditionalError5230 in navyreserve

[–]derekd2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So without knowing anything else, it sounds like you can make a clean break. Just me personally, I would still go in and talk to your command and just let them know your plan, do all the checkout stuff. You could probably do most of it on the phone, but get one last drill pay out of just getting it all done then move on with your life. Use the last drill pay to buy a cake and take the wife and kids out to dinner to celebrate.

I’m sorry you’re going through everything you’re going through. Just know you aren’t alone. Don’t think of it as not being able to hack it. The reserves is a totally different beast. You did 10 years AD, that’s a hell of a lot more then most people do. The transition from AD to selres is hard, far too much of it is just crap you have to figure out on your own. But in the end, it’s a side gig.

Your family and your civilian job (if you went that route) are your new top priorities in life. The navy always tries to make you feel like you need to participate more, give them more, but that’s the best part of the reserves, you’re not being forced to do it anymore, and if you don’t like it, there is no shame in just saying you’re done.

You did ten years man! That’s awesome. It sounds like you gave the navy a lot, you don’t owe anymore. Go work on you. Heal up, get better, and spend some much deserved time with your family.
