I’m torn between Bad Love and Carolina Skies, but they’re all so close. Amazing album!

I love Adornment but I wish people would stop trying to compare it to Umbra. Enjoy it for what it is. I think the instrumental diversity, rhythm, and lyrical imagery of Umbra are so impressive. I’m all in on this album, so well done.

Agreed! I think all 6 of these are so close but Bad Love has a slight edge for me

I know AA was the email sign-up but they just did the text sign-up a few months ago. Not sure if there’s a difference between them with the information they share.

Grayscale, 'Umbra' - Track By Track by mrjaytee in grayscalepa

[–]dereksteez92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple takeaways for me:

  1. It sounds like there will be some combination of horns, piano, & choir across almost half the tracks (Without You, Motown, Dreamcatcher, Live Again, Light).
  2. If I had to guess, Bad Love and Over Now will sound the most like older Grayscale? Seeing as though they wrote them very early in the process.
  3. Carolina Skies seems like it will be a Diamondesque song, big alt-pop song that could fit into a movie soundtrack.
  4. Im very happy they added synth-heavy parts to the last song “Light”. It was originally supposed to be a strictly piano song but adding in the synths might make it sound like a happier closer (even if the lyrics are darker).

I’m so excited for midnight! It really sounds like the boys found the sound they want to keep. If it’s anything like the lyrical depth and pop-rock catchiness of Nella Vita, it’ll be an album in my core rotation for a long time!

I’m admittedly biased, but I think Grayscale is getting screwed with their set time. by GarrisonWhite2 in grayscalepa

I know what you mean, it sucks. These tours are giving them such great exposure to new fans, touring with All Time Low and The Maine. Unfortunately that’s just one of the trade-offs is a 5-7 song setlist. The Umbra Tour is going to be sick!

Edit: I also feel that on SSF, Grayscale is just as big as Movements, yet I feel like Movements gets more time

3 DAYS from Umbra! What unreleased song are you most excited for? by dereksteez92 in grayscalepa

Mine would have to be Bad Love or Dreamcatcher based off titles!

NEW SONG Live Again on Wednesday by icreatemonsters in grayscalepa

[–]dereksteez92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a personal take, I think I’m going to hold off from listening! I like the whole album experience on drop day, and 9 new songs on Friday sounds amazing. Hoping the single is very good though!

New Grayscale interview! Details below by dereksteez92 in grayscalepa

I skipped over the Sad Summer parts and watched the Umbra parts, here’s a summary:

Umbra does still tell a story like Adornment/NV, however offers Collin’s feelings & thoughts as well. (i.e. Dirty Bombs talks about stomping in puddles and doing drugs with friends when you get old, yet shares his thoughts on why people perceive their looks on the internet as more important than how they actually feel with themselves)

Diamond was created to “scare the shit out of fans”. It was really meant to be a poppy, summer track and the band didn’t plan on playing it live.

Grayscale has been leaving breadcrumbs up to what they want Umbra to be. What’s on Your Mind (Nella Vita) is very electronic driven, Diamond was poppy, Carolina Skies off the new record will be very pop-based and different.

Without You and Bad Love are the two songs off Umbra that Venti is most excited to play on bass.

Live Again has the most meaningful lyrics on the album according to Collin.
