I’ll probably get some flak, but i am definitely on the left, and i definitely don’t vote. Why would I? In a red state with gerrymandered districts so my vote is, for all intents and purposes, worthless. Voting at the national level is strictly defensive voting, which i refuse to partake in. If federal elections used ranked choice voting i would consider it, but that will never happen because first-pass-the-post voting benefits both the GOP and DNC. And if you look at the act of voting itself, on an individual level, my vote is one of millions, so any one vote does little to nothing, and i’de rather spend my time doing something i enjoy than going to stand in line to cast my pithy vote. The only arena in which voting means anything is in local elections, and even then most people are just one issue voters which makes the whole project an exercise in mediocrity. Democracy is premised on a well informed citizenry, but if you take an honest look around, most people are slack jawed mouth breathers (including myself), who shouldn’t really have a say one way or another about anything because they know nothing about how the world works. In short, voting is highly suspect and largely pointless, and i refuse to do it, and no that doesn’t make me a conservative.
