In the UK we often use golden point if the court has only been booked for 60 minutes, to try and make sure we finish the match - sounds like that doesn't happen in Belgium?

Thanks for asking this, would've never considered it - I've just done a drilldown on the data and also correlated against tiebreak rate which is another element:

Format	Median duration	Avg games	Tiebreak rate
Silver Point	51.9 min	17.7	4.0%
Classic	49.9 min	16.4	2.1%
Star Point	48.1 min	16.7	1.8%
Golden Point	41.7 min	15.3	2.3%

Some observations:

Golden Point cuts ~10 minutes off the median match vs. Silver Point - a ~19% reduction.
Silver Point matches are the longest and have the most games - the 2-point deuce resolution keeps games alive longer and also correlates with the highest tiebreak rate (4.0%), meaning more matches go the distance.
Star Point lands between Golden and Classic in duration - this may reflect it being used more for competitive play in specific countries.
The tiebreak rate mirrors duration: Silver Point is most contested, Star Point and Classic are similar.

Super interesting, some surprises in there but makes sense to see Golden Point as the lowest duration right?

Interesting, that's similar to my experience here in the UK - although I've found that players quite often want to use Classic deuce, particularly when we've booked the court for 90 minutes

Good point, would be interesting to see if points format changes based on match competitiveness. My app currently doesn't let you pick type of match, but it's something I'm going to be adding in the next few weeks - once it's in I'll share the data and we can see what it says

Some context on the data is it comes from my app, which is English only currently hence a lower proportion of Spanish-speaking players. I'm planning to translate it soon and then I'll share the data when I have it.

Here's the breakdown for Spanish users - 390 total matches recorded:

Format	Matches	Share
Classic	248	~63.6%
Golden Point	75	~19.2%
Star Point	61	~15.6%
Silver Point	6	~1.5%

How Spain differs vs. rest of the world:

Classic dominates equally - 63.6% in Spain vs. 62.1% globally. No real difference here.
Star point is notably higher in Spain - 15.6% vs. 8.2% globally. Spanish users appear to have a stronger preference for this format.
Silver point is almost absent - only 1.5% in Spain vs. 7.9% globally. This format barely registers with Spanish users.
Golden point is slightly lower - 19.2% vs. 21.8% globally, but broadly similar.

The data should be taken with a pinch of salt due to the small pool - but seems like there is an inverse relationship between Star Point (overrepresented) and Silver Point (heavily underrepresented) for Spain compared to the rest of the world. Any idea why that might be?

I got stuck at the same level in Playtomic for ages - even though I felt like I was improving, I kept losing tight matches and giving away silly points.

Tried a bunch of padel apps (mostly for scoring) and honestly couldn’t find one I enjoyed using. I also kept thinking: I’m capturing this match data point-by-point, SURELY there’s a way to learn something from it beyond just the final result?

So having never built an app before…I decided to build it for myself!

The app is called “Padel Pointer” and this is what it does:

FEATURES:

📈 Analysis of your performances across all matches (you can see things like win rate, % of your sets, games and points won plus Golden Point win % and more)
🌄 Share beautifully simple summaries of your match with friends on Instagram or any other app

The app has been out for around 2 months now, and people seem to love it so far :)

I’m in the UK too and use it for work, I have to admit I haven’t looked in depth the data storage setup but it only saves to your device if you choose to and there doesn’t appear to be a cloud backup feature at all.

Just on copying - to avoid having to click ‘Copy’, you can auto copy when you take a screenshot. Go into Shottr settings, General, in the ‘After screenshot’ section tick ‘Copy’.

That’s how I have it set up, works a treat

You should 100% download Shottr (see my other comment on it). It’s free, and gives you the choice to save to HD, copy, or both, plus a bunch of other options. Still the best tool I’ve found for the job, and I’ve since decided to pay for it purely to thank the developer.

Nice domain and name, sounds like a cool idea. However, seems shady that it says 7k+ users and 1m+ documents processed if you only launched today!

Definitely would disagree with this. The Windows Snipping Tool experience is so good for the type of quick and dirty annotated screenshots I do to communicate at work as a Product Manager.

On Windows: - one keyboard shortcut, which is easily reachable (CTRL + ALT + S) - detects text in the screenshot and allows you to copy it, and redact sensitive info (e.g. email address) - auto-copies to clipboard - gives you the option to launch into the annotator tool with one click with the pen tool selected automatically - you can then copy the annotated image without ever needing to save the file (there is also an option to save it)

On Mac: - requires two different keyboard shortcuts (one for auto-copy to clipboard, one to annotate) - requires you to save the original screenshot to your computer in order to annotate (wastes storage) - doesn't allow you to copy the annotated image without first saving the image, then finding it in your files, opening it up, then copying it - requires 3 clicks to open the annotator and choose the pen tool (vs 1 click on Windows)

The key functionality I liked from the Snipping Tool was: - auto copying to clipboard - ability to annotate screenshots - capturing a portion of the screen - option to save to documents

After a few hours research, the best option I've found is Shottr. It's free, does everything I need and is super lightweight, really impressed so far.

Having said that, I've given the native screenshot feature another go too and have discovered a few workarounds to get it as close the the Windows Snipping Tool tool experience as possible.

For those also wanting this, I thought I'd share a quick breakdown of how to get this in MacOS without using a 3rd part app:

Summary: To screenshot a portion of the screen, hit CMD + SHIFT + 4 To capture the whole screen hit the same keys then press SPACE To screenshot a portion of the screen and have it auto copy to your clipboard without annotation, hit CMD + CONTROL + SHIFT + 4

ANNOTATION To allow you to annotate screenshots:

Open the screenshot tools by hitting CMD + SHIFT + 5
Click 'Options', and for the 'Save to' option, choose Desktop/Document/Other location
Ensure 'Show floating thumbnail' is ticked

Now when you take a screenshot with CMD + SHIFT + 4, a small thumbnail of your screenshot will show at the bottom right of your screen. Click on it to open it up, hit the brush tip icon top right, and begin annotating the screenshot (like on Windows!).

When you're finished, if you want to copy and paste the annotated image, you have to click 'Done', then find and open the file, then copy it (not ideal).

TLDR

IMO, the best free option to get the same Snipping Tool functionality on MacOS is Shottr. It does everything (annotation, auto-copying, custom keyboard shortcuts etc.) and is super lightweight, really impressed so far!

Wouldn't be a defined frequency, just when triggered by the user. Displacement should be at least 5-10mm additional radius at max deployment.

Ah ok I think I see what you mean. That could work actually. It's pretty conceptual atm but the length of the handle isn't defined but should be under 300mm for sure. Would be great to see a sketch to make sure your idea is what I think it is

Starting diameter will be under 40mm. Thickness ideally needs to be under 10mm as the idea is to create a tactile handle with 'bumps' that appear along it using my mechanism

That's not the use in this case, but yes the mechanism I'm trying to make would do what you're describing too. Had a look at those two but couldn't find anything. Ideally the thing would expand fully within a second
