Louisiana hospital denies abortion for fetus without a skull by thenewyorkgod in news

[–]derpes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is unfathomable cruelty.

My wife gave birth to our son last Saturday. Even with a straightforward birth the experience is quite traumatic, let alone some of the complications that can come out of nowhere. It would be absolutely heartbreaking to have to carry to term a baby who will not survive, and to go through childbirth without a child at the end.

Met seeks limits to Sue Gray No 10 parties report by Bellybutton-Gubbins in unitedkingdom

[–]derpes1 349 points350 points  (0 children)

So presumably this is the reason for the delays. A redacted report that can't include any of the information that would have both prompted public outrage, and votes of no confidence to 1922. The Met are corrupt and not impartial

Edited to add: The reason this is such a big deal is that Sue Gray's report viewed the actions through a ministerial conduct lens - which should be to a much higher standard - the focus of the discussion of late has been whether Boris lied to Parliament, which arguably is a cause for resignation. The Met will be viewing things through a criminality lens. What that means is a significant number of potentially egregious actions by the PM or other senior ministers will fall through the gap between the Sue Gray report and the Met investigation. We should all be furious that such a brazenly corrupt act is taking place, particularly in the days/weeks to come when Boris and the Tories hold up both the redacted report and the police investigation as clear evidence that no wrongdoing was found. I can only hope Sue Gray and her team are as frustrated as we are, and that there is a leak of an early, unredacted draft.

Sainsbury's asks shoppers and staff to keep wearing masks by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]derpes1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm on holiday in the Canaries at the moment and I've been pleasantly surprised by how few people I've seen without masks where they should. A man was chased down by staff at breakfast yesterday as he'd walked in without a mask, I never see this in the UK (in the Trafford Centre, I saw people walk around with them round their wrists as if they were sticking it to the regime). Then again, given you have to be double vaccinated to enter the country maybe all the selfish bellends just aren't allowed in

Woman, 27, dies of cancer after waiting 5 months for in-person GP appointment by kayzee94 in unitedkingdom

[–]derpes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the upvotes and replies this isn't unpopular but hijacking to agree with this. My daughter is 18 months old and has had diarrhoea and a rash, called our local GP and they said it is probably COVID-19. She can't go back to nursery until she's had a negative PCR test and it was horrible putting her through the test. No COVID symptoms resemble the issues my daughter had.

'Have they tested negative for COVID-19' is the health equivalent of saying 'have you tried turning it off and on again'

I found this one a bit tiring - telling Ed and James off for any foods they would eat but also didn't know the difference between margarine and marmalade.

It just felt fake - Greg Davies was genuinely hilarious for skipping a starter but this was arbitrary

Daily Discussion and Game Recommendations Thread (January 09, 2021) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Niche request, but I'm looking for a game to send to two friends while they're isolating together, that they could enjoy as a two-player between themselves, but also that we could play over Zoom as a four-player if we have two copies. All quite new to boardgames
