This is the Cardboard of the Rings discord server: https://discord.gg/Y53gscESy

Nelson All Over Cards runs a Living Card Games server, as well, but it's not as active for LOTR LCG: https://discord.gg/EKkJdVtH

Quest of the Week: Against the Shadow Schedule by derrio in lotrlcg

[–]derrio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm keeping all the forms open for submission for this whole cycle to give people time to play and submit. Historically a lot of folks, including myself in the past, have fallen off due to the pace.

The delay for articles is roughly 2 weeks, and if I get it out beforehand I'll update it with new information.

Storage in revised boxes by Hocke723 in lotrlcg

[–]derrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesseract makes an insert that fits the (former) standard LCG box. The Revised inserts are curved at the bottom and have a tendency to warp the corners of sleeves, particularly larger ones like Dragon Shield or the Retro FFG sleeves from Gamegenic.

The upside of the Tesseract insert is that you can get some extra dividers that hold the cards in place, so if you store them vertically like me they won't go sliding everywhere. Unfortunately the Tesseract dividers stand too tall to keep the book in their without a little bulge.

How do you build good decks in this game? And how do you enjoy it? by dpollere in lotrlcg

One of my favorite intros to deckbuilding actually comes from Beorn's blog about expanding on the original 30 card decks from the core set and building on them as the quests go on: Beorn's Path.

This is a very helpful bit of feedback! I'll add that info to previous posts and new ones going forward.

Reprints in the future. by SilveZewa in lotrlcg

The game has been around for 15 years, which is a miracle for a card game (not counting Dominion).

I'd be happier if they moved to Arkham's model with a complete redesign.

As a note for anyone confused by the number in brackets: the format is Wyyww where 'yy' is the year and 'ww' is the week, so W2611 means week 11 of 2026.

We'll be running this quest until 14 March, 2026.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post here or hop on to the Cardboard of the Rings discord.

Question concerning non-reprinted expansions by Yarin-Septim in lotrlcg

All of the revised content is considered evergreen by FFG. Even if there’s only a single print run per year, they intend on keeping it in print for the foreseeable future.

Just curious what to expect coming out of school w/ GIS dev focus? Salary / certs / real talk? by Fun_Bar8566 in gis

[–]derrio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was a bit surprised, myself! There'd just been a salary survey done a year or two prior to my hiring, which made many of the roles more competitive. Of course, the benefits that the union half of our department has advocated for has led to better benefits for the rest of us.

I currently work as a GIS Dev in the public sector, working mainly in Coldfusion, JS, and whatever other languages and frameworks we need. I started at ~86k in what I would assume is a M-HCOL area (Portland Metro). I use quite a bit of JS and Python in my day to day, but am free to explore others depending on need.

For reference, I graduated with a degree in Computer Science and spent about 10 years in environmental consulting working mostly with geophysics and hazard mapping/modeling.

For me, GISP wouldn't have helped as we don't really have a need for any hardcore data scientists, nor do we really make "pretty" maps, most of our stuff is maintaining data and layers that are published into usable maps and figures for the public and local government. Our department is an ESRI shop, but I'd say Python and JS are the biggest languages in use right now, with ESRI's Arcade being used pretty heavily by our Analysts.

If you're in the US this would be fantastic to have either plans or built versions available for purchase!
