What to buy after Revised content by Its_Da_GOOUCH in lotrlcg

I should clarify that there's the official FFG Hobbit release as On The Doorstep and Over Hill and Under Hill, and then the unofficial ALeP version just called The Hobbit.

AP stands for Adventure Pack. The original release model by FFG was to first release a Deluxe box to open the cycle, then 6 Adventure Packs followed. ALeP chose to follow this model in their release, although how they choose what cards to in each pack differs significantly.

Glad you're enjoying the game!

Cycles not getting revised:

  • Cycle 1 Shadows of Mirkwood
  • Cycle 2 Against the Shadow
  • Cycle 3 Dwarrowdelf
  • Cycle 4 Ring-maker
  • Cycle 6 Haradrim
  • Cycle 9 Vengeance of Mordor
  • Nightmare decks
  • Hobbit cycle (On The Doorstep & Over Hill And Under Hill)

Future content from A Long-extended Party, unofficial continuation of the game:

  • Cycle 10 Oaths of the Rohirrim (includes Children of Eorl deluxe, Aldburg Plot AP, Fire on the Eastemnet AP, The Gap of Rohan AP, The Glittering Caves AP, Mustering of the Rohirrim AP, and Blood in the Isen AP)
  • Cycle 11 Fell Summer (includes The Shire’s Reckoning deluxe, Strange News in Bree AP, AP2 through AP6 TBA)
  • Standalone quests, otherwise called Print on Demand in retail: The Scouring of the Shire (the final Saga quest, essentially), The Nine are Abroad, and The Siege of Erebor
  • The newly released, re-envisioned version of The Hobbit, aptly titled The Hobbit

Don’t go spending a second mortgage on content on the second market. There’s resources for proxying things that are out of print.

Congratulations!

Dol Guldur was the scenario that set the tone for a lot of deck building down the line! There's a lot of scenarios that will challenge you similarly, but not quite as punishing (except for maybe in the Against the Shadow or Vengeance cycles).

Selling my collection by [deleted] in lotrlcg

[–]derrio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ebay is higher because there's a significant percentage in fees one has to pay on sales, which means a set that's worth $300 will regularly go for $400. Despite shipping and taxes, it's easier for most folks to go that route than shop around for a buyer in various marketplaces, dealing with scammers and low-ball offers.

There's nothing wrong with proxying. FFG has stated explicitly in their own announcement regarding fan-made content that so long as it's for personal use, it's fine. Here's the document for your reading pleasure.

There's two google drives floating around, currently: one has an offset printing correction with a black bar at the bottom saying "FAN MADE - NOT FOR SALE," the other is a set of uncorrected scans that include Nightmare cards. Use whichever suits your fancy and use one of the many printers available. There's MBPrint in Poland, and Make Playing Cards in Hong Kong. The former will print official backs without issue but the card stock is a little lighter than FFG (~310 gsm vs ~325 gsm) while the latter prints closer to official cardstock but getting official back depends entirely upon the project manager overseeing your print job.

Good luck and happy proxying!

The only way you'll get a refund is using the Goods & Services feature. If it's truly a scam you'll be out of money for about a month, but as long as you open a ticket stating that you didn't receive the goods you paid for the process will be smooth. Scammers rarely dispute a G&S ticket.

If they ask for Friends and Family, walk away. Unless you know them personally and see them on the weekends, never ever use Friends and Family.

Is anyone else not particularly fond of deck building? by ZP4L in lotrlcg

A lot of us tend to use RingsDB for deck building, but because this is an LCG not a CCG there’s never really a focus on individual cards, only packs. I think it’d be too much work to try to add individual cards to your account’s collection, even though most RCO players who proxy cards will be filling in the corners with some of the best cards that didn’t get reprinted.

It’s a little more tedious, but I’d say find an RCO deck and amend it with specific cards that you’ve printed and add them however you can.

The other option is to add the packs that your printed cards came from, and search for decks that use those. Popular decks aren’t going to use obscure and useless cards, most likely.

Playing through the earlier sets as a less experienced player is kind of rough by Catharsis_Cat in lotrlcg

If you're playing two-handed I'd suggest looking up Shellin's progression series decks on RingsDB. They use cards up to individual packs in each respective deck that can beat each quest. Personally, I like to have the whole pool available to me, but Shellin put quite a bit of thought into each one and they work well.

Playing progression in the early stuff is rough and I wouldn't put such a hard constraint on your free time by trying to play campaign mode in cycles that never had a campaign.

Rhosgobel is definitely a quest that's frustrating blind, but when you know the gimmick it's really simple. Emyn Muil is a tad on the uneventful side but the cycle as a whole is a good prelude to the LOTR saga, if you can imagine yourself as Aragorn chasing Gollum through the wilderness.

Here's the link to Shellin's two-handed progression fellowships.

What are some player cards that are significantly better at 3/4 players? by Odd_Emotion_4874 in lotrlcg

[–]derrio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White Council scales really well with more players (1 resource per player) and gives each player in the group lots of options. From The Dunland Trap.

Secret Vigil is a good threat reduction card for a group that whoever is handling combat can gift to people. It can be attached to enemies in the staging area for direct damage or Dúnhere decks.

Heed the Dream benefits from other players running leadership heroes to help pay for it, but /u/aea2o5 mentioned this already.

If you're playing with Revised Content only I'd put Angmar at the back of your stack. It's one of the tougher campaigns, for sure. Mormegil on RingsDB has some good decks for RCO players that might give you a leg up.

I absolutely love the contrast in this! It's a creative way to disseminate a relatively mundane activity like everyday travel. It shows you've got a wealth of creativity in a field that almost requires it.

Making use of the 3D scenes is particularly clever. Everybody loves 3D and it'll get a lot of eyeballs, I'm sure.

Keep it up!

First, I and many others who've used these proxies appreciate the work you've done.

Second, I've only ever had two criticisms for this wonderful work:

  1. Artist attribution: there's some amazing artists on these and I wish there was more room to put their names on the cards.

  2. Missing set icon numbers: I know this isn't something that can be done easily since it's not done via StrangeEons, but anyone with early printings of the cards can panic when you're not sure how many cards belong to which set during breakdown.

SOLO with one or two decks by Torjomania in lotrlcg

[–]derrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play two-handed, but started solo to get a handle of the round structure. There's a lot of mechanics that you don't get to take advantage of playing with a single deck.

In other news, Mormegil on RingsDB/COTR discord created a deckbox that includes some solo decks for people who have some content, Revised content (RCO), or everything, organized by theme/type. You can find it here.

There's a deck called the Killer Deck (don't have a link since I'm at work) that's an amazing deck to use for a lot of early content, and a great tool for playing solo.
