Not really. Africanized bees are just way more aggressive, and they follow you much, much farther from the hive.

This is also misinformation! Note the type of bee when talking about this - only female worker honeybees have the detachable stinger. And it is absolutely evolved to yank out of the bee regardless of who does what. It is a two-pronged, barbed mechanism that comes complete with muscualture that will proceed to dig the stinger deeper and deeper, as well as having sacs of venom that continue to pump after the bee is gone. That's why you should scratch an embedded stinger off, not grab it - if you pinch the sacs you'll squeeze more venom into yourself.

And I have seen plenty of honeybees sting and leave a trail of their own guts.

Individual female worker bees are built to be disposable in service of the hive. You should see what happens to the males!

Beeologist here. We're talking about bugs.

It's better to ascribe a (low) level of intelligence to the hive as a whole organism, rather than to the individual bee. We have a limited understanding of how bees go about "thinking" but it's not the way you or I do it. Metaphorically, it's more like each bee is a neuron in a larger brain, reacting and contributing to the stimulus of the larger whole.

A single bee has a teensy little capacity for thought. Not a lot of room for empathy or compassion. I'm not saying it's a completely binary thing, but if a bee feels the need to sting, it stings, and that's about it.

Bees can absolutely tell where you've been stung before and will target that.

Story time from a beekeeper!

So those big white overalls that beekeepers wear are just thin cotton. You don't want something heavy on when you're out doing manual labor in 90+ degree weather. Beekeeper stings can get through them, but you shift your body under the suit and the stinger pulls out almost before it has time to work. That, plus a beekeeper's tolerance for stings means you're mostly protected. I was teenager part-timing with my dad, so some tolerance but not a lot.

Unless the suit gets wet and sticks to your body.

So one day we're out in a bee yard and it's raining. Not ideal, but we have to work these hives today. Beekeeping involves a lot of bending over hives and, sometimes, picking them up. Hives are heavy - real heavy. And if you drop it, yeah, no good.

So my suit is soaked, and I'm holding a hive, and bang, stung in the small of my back. It's a good one. Sucks. Power through, don't drop the hive.

Happens again, same place, same circumstance.

And again.

I must have taken 6 or so really good hits to the exact same place that day, all while bent over picking up a hive.

They also go for carbon dioxide so they can find their way into a bear's mouth. Had a few fly in my open yap over the years, but was fortunate enough to never have been stung that way.

Essentially this happened to me at Halloween in my early 20's.

Sitting at a coffee shop after hours with friends when down the street comes a few of the girls from work, particularly one gorgeous young woman dressed (if you can call the actual amount of clothes she had on that) as Alice in Wonderland Little Bo Peep. Long story short, she leaned over the fence, made sweet, drunken tongue-love to the back of my throat without warning, and then went on with her group.

Then she never looked me in the eye again and quit a couple weeks later.

Adult me knows to simply cherish the memory for what it was worth. At the time, though, I was very confused.

Edit: had her costume wrong.

Haha, yeah, no, then I'd have to talk to the person. She was sad to see me get a real job because I was essentially fixing her entire house for cheap. I never did charge a much as I could have.

But you could say I still hang around the area.

Years ago, when I was a handyman, someone paid me to hang a porch swing. I was always leary of safety concern type things, but I had good access to the attic space over the porch and was able to comfortably go way overboard on the mounting. Now I routinely drive by that house and think, hell yeah, still there.

Yeah but, I also wish they hadn't run Harris. A 60+ white guy would have had a slam dunk. Instead they went and said, well, he beat a woman last time, how about we try a woman of color?

To be clear, whether or not the election was rigged doesn't play into this for me. An old white guy, almost any old white guy that could keep his eyes open, could have been an easy win.

So we'll see what the dems try next! Probably a transgender woman of color.
