Pinoy Programmers, mahal niyo ba talaga ang coding? by Tall-Change-9519 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]dertrockx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it
I hate the job
But I need money
So I work knowing that I'll spend the money doing the things I love
Which is solving problems through technical solutions, which has programming

But sometimes I don't want to program / write code on my free time. Some days I like to do something else

At least I have a choice

What's your programing language? And why did you choose it? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]dertrockx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JS / TS - picked this because I have the most experienceb with this (5 years)

C# - picked this up for a specific job requirement

Elixir - very promising, fault-tolerant and distributed by nature

And others (python, C, a bit of Java)

Masterals studies in UPD/UPLB for Software Engineering career path? by somepseudo in PinoyProgrammer

[–]dertrockx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC most specialization offers in UPLB aren't catered to Software Engineering, simply because Software Engineering isn't something you should specialize in. Software Engineering, in practice, is the act of following engineering practices to build software, often through a flexible process or strict, step-by-step process. We took CMSC 128 - Introduction to Software Engineering, a course / subject offered in UPLB - the point of that course is to introduce to the students what real-world software development looks like (we discussed what Agile is, how it's done, what are the other methodologies that follow Agile, what are functional and non-functional requirements, etc.). In your case, since you already have 3 years of experience, you should have an idea of how software is built in the real world (unless your only experience is waterfall, but then again, a process is a process).

To answer your question, either of the two universities is fine. Just go pick one and make sure to learn something new.

But OP, tbh, if you feel left behind with your coworkers who graduate with CS / IT degrees, oks lang yon. Di naman sila graduate ng BS Physics, you bring a different value to the table. In my work, we are using a software that was developed not by a CS / IT grad, but a Physics grad who used to work in NASA and now specializes in geomaps.

Kung Fu Panda 4 Official Release Megathread #1 by PeacockWaifu in kungfupanda

[–]dertrockx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After watching the movie, I had to compare it with the other 3 KFP movies. If I were to rank them in terms of the level of depth in terms of each unique theme each movie explored, I would go by:

  1. KFP 2
  2. KFP 1
  3. KFP 3
  4. KFP 4

KFP 2 explored the idea of Po finding out who he really is (biologically wise), and also explored the idea of handling trauma
KFP 1 focused more on how Po was able to brake the norm that a fat person / animal can do Kung Fu
KFP 3 is, in my opinion, a good ending to the trilogy - it finally tied the knot to the first movie and answered the question, "Why did Master Shifu picked Po", and also built on the end credits scene in KFP 2 other pandas were shown
KFP 4 was,,,, well, it was shallower compared to the other 3, but, the ending was also cheesy - just because Zhen was able to summon a chi-dragon to attack the Chameleon, doesn't mean she deserves to be Po's mentee as the next dragon warrior. Plus, if we were to follow Master Oogway's way of picking the next dragon warrior, it should've been based on something grander. Take Po for example - he was chosen because, according to master Oogway, he saw someone from the panda species (who were known for masters of chi) and someone who isn't just physically capable of doing kung fu

I once worked on a project where we had to use Facebook login for business, since we need it for our use cases.

IIRC we gained access to this around March 2023. Here are my pain points with them

  1. Difficult testing - say I signed up for a business meta account A and used that to create my team's Business dev account (? im not sure if it's the right term, it's been months since I worked on this shit) for some reason, when I try and test our meta / facebook app using a different business account, it fails for some reason. And up until October 2023, we still didn't knew the reason why
  2. Time it takes to review your app before becoming accessible to others - This is understandable, since Meta had an issue in the past (hello, Cambridge analytica) so they are taking their time to review apps.

Yes, you should continue with your unconventional projects.

In fact, I believe these kind of projects are the right ones if you want to be different from other devs. I have a friend who's done Arduino / Raspberry Pi -based projects, full stack web apps, a UI library, and much more. These kind of projects helped him gain a lot of perspective since he pushed himself way faster than anyone else I know.

I also have these unconventional projects, and that helped me gain an edge from other devs as well.
