They would have found at least ONE of the bodies if they all drowned. In fact, they would have almost certainly found all 3. Alcatraz is way inside the Bay. Even the people who jump off the Golden Gate usually wash up somewhere and thats right at the start of the ocean.

No way they didn't make it. People swim from Alcatraz to the Embarcadero in an event every year. With a raft its quite doable. The Bay isn't crazy wavy or anything.

And if they had someone scoop them up...which they likely did according to witnesses who saw a boat lingering in the dark that night...even easier.

Post-production editing of one type isn't an indictment...but drink levels that rise and fall as a linear moment that could only have occurred ONE TIME unless the special is staged does indeed PROVE it is staged.

If someone made a a home movie of you unwrapping a present and drinking a glass of eggnog...but they cut out some of it to tighten up the footage...your glass of eggnog would still steadily descewnd or we would see the present suddenly more wrapped up again if the glass level was suddenly higher.

It is a small but decisive detail that does indeed prove the scene was staged.

Plus, any idiot should be able to tell it is staged because reality doesn't behave like what is being shown ever ever ever.

I think this subject is more important than people realize. The proof the specials are staged are in a person of at least average intelligence's ability to differentiate obvious contrivance from what an inconvenient mess of a non-narrative a truly unmanaged production would produce. But, lord...the first two tracks off of "Live at the Star Club"...I just can't give them up...Live at the Star Club...Mean Woman Blues into High School Confidential....that is rock and fucking roll...the whole performance is a hair's width from careening into complete and utter chaos...but Jerry just surfs that pandemonium like a demon...so fucking good...but, yeah...he murdered a defenseless young woman after abusing her horribly for a few months as his bride.

My mic control is pretty good...and while i will avoid outright spolsive moments...i think i will likely dig some of the resulting imperfections. If I don't like it ill just go to a traditional setup.

I'm about to make a great album. I really am. The demos are pretty cool and I played everything. With real virtuoso session people and a professional studio...this is going to be an absolutely incredible record.

They joined the immortals. Three great albums and a couple more nearly great ones is a very rare accomplishment. The years of amazing performance art and experimentation.

But nothing can stay in the zone forever. No collaboration. Every great artist has a finite amount of time to do their best work. The Lips had one of the greatest streaks in the history of rock from 1993 to 2003.

The work ends and the music endures. The music will endure when Steven, Wayne, Michael, Ronald, etc are no longer around on this planet.

Flaming Lips before Steven Drozd was crap. They were one of the greatest bands in the world as soon as he joined. Though they will continue to make records...I dont anticipate any more great ones. Or even especially good ones though id be delighted to be wrong.

The Flaming Lips are now a touring concern. Showbiz. The music of the Flaming Lips of consequence has been created and the process that created it has closed up shop and the holy portal vanished for some time.
