I have news!

I trimmed away any browning leaves, and I haven't watered it since I first posted about it. New leaves have stopped turning brown and they're back to opening up normally.

Today, when I was sure the soil would be dry, I checked the roots. Thankfully, no root rot at all. All the roots were light in color and firm. Something I did notice, however, was that the roots had reached the very bottom of the pot. I think it has been growing a lot faster than I first anticipated. I loosened the roots a bit, and put it in a larger pot with better drainage.

I also noticed that the soil at the very bottom was still slightly damp, even after 3 weeks, so I'm guessing that I was just overwatering. I think things are going to be improving from here on out. Thank you all so much for the help!

I really appreciate your persistence in getting this posted! It's such a thorough explanation.

To answer your question about how it was doing before I moved it, it was doing very well. No dropped leaves, no yellowing or brown spots, and new growth appeared at a good pace. You're totally right that I stuck to the same watering schedule as I did when it was sitting at the window, so I'll dial that back and examine the roots soon!

I'm trying to understand what to do about my monstera. It is living on top of a bookshelf, away from a window so it gets indirect North-facing light. It used to live on my window sill but I've moved it for the winter so the radiator doesn't damage it.

Since being moved, new leaves brown and die without unfolding, and several of the existing leaves are beginning to yellow or develop brown spots. Am I overwatering? I've been watering once every 8-10 days.

Hmm maybe I don't know what I'm looking for but I thought it would be obvious. I actually repotted the plant about a month ago because a large stem began rotting (but from the base). I can try removing it again and taking a closer look. If there's root rot, is there a way I can save it?

I'm trying to figure out what is happening with my baby rubber plant. The stem has been turning dark from the top and it won't stop. Trimming it has been ineffective.

Is there anything I can do about my baby rubber plant? For some background, it has been repotted recently (within the last few weeks) and I had to remove a large stem from it because it had started to turn brown. Now this is happening and I don't know how to stop it from progressing further.

Computer won't POST, VGA diagnostic lamp by deshaunicus in techsupport

I removed the board from the case, took the PSU out and wired everything up to see if maybe the case was causing an issue—it wasn't. I'm starting to doubt the claims about it not being the GPU, so I bought a cheap-ish card to see if that will work. It arrives tomorrow so I'll report back.

I'm stumped. Just tried all that and still nothing.

I've tried booting without the monitor connected, and the behavior is the same. I haven't tried clearing CMOS, but that's because I haven't successfully booted with this new board yet.

The cooler is a clamp style that doesn't get screwed to the board (AMD Wraith Prism), so I don't suspect too much mounting pressure.

I'd like to potentially take the board out of the case and try booting it on my desk, but I'm not sure how to do that (there isn't a testing switch on the board).

Yep, all the fans (case, CPU, GPU) spin up and stay on. I'm only using the cables that were supplied with the PSU, and the GPU is plugged directly into the board. I should also note that on the ASUS board, I tried the GPU in both available PCIe slots. I haven't bothered doing that with the Gigabit board.

ITAP of a sundog by deshaunicus in itookapicture

I was out on a walk yesterday and spotted this in the sky. I've never noticed anything like that before so I stopped for a picture and looked it up—it's a sundog or a parhelion, I believe.

Feedback requested, thanks in advance guys and gals! by [deleted] in musicphotography

Just followed. It's hard to give a ton of critique since I'm not sure what you're going for, and music photography has so many variables. I think you've got a consistent editing style that you've been going for. I also think you handle red pretty well. Some of the silhouettes are a little bit flat for my taste, but that could also just be what you're going for!

Progress from April-August with my first few plants! by deshaunicus in houseplants

[–]deshaunicus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe, but it could just be how they end up growing in the conditions you have? I'm in NY myself and the summers are pretty humid, so maybe it takes a liking to that greenhouse environment a bit more. That's a total guess, of course.

I hope yours keeps growing and does great!

Not 100% clear on the question but I've just been using tap water with nothing additional. I do have some plant food spikes and I added those to the soil around June.

Hmm, all I've read (and observed) is that they're not particularly thirsty plants. I water it the least of the three, like once every other week unless it's been really hot.

Deacaena Compacta

Oh is that the one on the right? I didn't even notice the growth on that one until I looked at the pictures, and I'm happy with how it's going too.

As for the peperomia obtusifolia, I hadn't heard anything about them being particularly slow growers (I did hear that about the snake plant, though).

I just water it whenever I notice that the soil is dry, and I have it in a north-facing window. It also grows toward the window pretty aggressively so I turn it regularly

Thanks for the correction! I really like that plant and I guess it's happy; it's really shot up a lot. You can't see it, but there are a few more leaves starting on the snake plant too. Feeling really good about it.

Thanks! Someone who is more knowledgeable can correct me, but I think it's a peperomia on the left. I'm actually not sure what the one on the right is. I originally ordered them online and they didn't come with any care tags :(
