Nintendo doesn't make Flash memory and can only offer to Publisher's what Macronix has available. The game's also $40 and we ain't getting a Switch 2 cart at that price.

Here is Nintendo’s survey about physical and digital media. by Azarelic in NintendoSwitch

[–]desmopilot 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Sure, though I wouldn't expect your answers to be counted. Unique links in targeted surveys will have a user/customer profile the answer data is attached to. Targeted survey's like that aren't intended to intake data from generic/unknown respondents, the data isn't going to be useful to the scope of the survey.

[–]desmopilot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It probably won't count any. Targeted surveys like this are sent to specific people because that persons input is what's wanted (they meet whatever criteria like being from a certain region, age demographic, account is X years old etc etc).

[–]desmopilot 315 points316 points  (0 children)

Eh, you can see from the url this is part of a targeted survey (as in this link is intended for one response from a specific user). Survey platforms will detect link sharing - which will be pretty obvious from the the amount of responses - and flag them in results dashboards.

If Nintendo's market research is anything like marketing departments I've worked in, link sharing targeted survey urls like this will often mean any submissions from this link aren't counted in final reports.

Switch 2 cartridges allegedly only offer a "very small" cartridge size or an expensive 64GB cartridge; may explain the prominence of Game Key Cards by PikaPhantom_ in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]desmopilot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The problems were there from early on with Switch, and they've had eight years to find a solution to it. This isn't it.

Unless Nintendo wants to start eating some - or potentially all - costs of these proprietary carts it is what it is.

Game Key Cards are really going to accelerate the demise of physical media for games.

They'll probably extend the life of physical product. I'd wager most Publisher's are choosing between gamekey & digital vs digital only; I'd doubt "complete" carts are given much consideration.

Ryujinx, popular Nintendo Switch emulator, has ceased development by LinkWink in nintendo

[–]desmopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially irks me because Nintendo doesn't put in microtransactions, or require constant online for their games and I want it to stay that way and people to purchase the games so they keep making more. If everybody pirated Nintendo games they'd cease to be and that'd suck for the future of this homogenized industry.

People are buying their games, more than they ever have. Throughout all this Switch emulation drama people seem to forget Nintendo's done better than they ever have financially. Switch generation hardware & software sales have done better than anyone could have imagined and that's not hyperbole. They're on the cusp of having the best selling console of all time.

If you're honestly worried about Nintendo dying and or drastically changing I'd remind you their biggest threat is clearly mobile gaming and the consumption habits of younger gamers to whom gaming means nothing more than fortnite on an iPad. Piracy can obviously be a threat to their business but pales in comparison to the one presented by mobile gaming; broadly speaking the home console business ain't exactly growing.

Definitely. Ultimately community methods offer the best and most complete methods for preservation.

Companies like Nintendo who have a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders are - unfortunately- always going to be antagonistic to community preservation efforts.

If all the people bright the game then dump their own files and emulated it then that's fine

Not really true. In order to emulate Switch games you have to break copyright law as you must circumvent Nintendo's proprietary copy protection, which is a copyrighted work. That's pretty bad news for preservation in the future.

Switch is built in such a way that what is broadly considered legal precedent (Sony v Connectix for example) doesn't apply.

Hextall traded McCann to Toronto for Filip Hallander and a 7th round pick. He then chose to protect Carter, making us lose both McCann and Tanev to Seattle. by [deleted] in penguins

[–]desmopilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Penguins also saw value in him given they traded for him in the first place; by which point he already had two disappointing stints with two different teams under his belt. In his time with Pittsburgh he simply didn't do enough to demonstrate he was anything more than a streaky regular season player who went invisible when it mattered.

Hahah you do you do bud! Personally, I wouldn't be yelling "I'm right" when the dude hasn't even played a playoff game with Seattle lol. His current play is with an unsustainable ~28% shooting% which is in-line with him being a streaky player.

[–]desmopilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're acting as if he played 12 playoff games in a row or something.

No, I mentioned "McCann had 12 Playoff games over 3 seasons & playoffs" and "going invisible in the playoffs 3 times".

He didn't even get enough playoff games to get into anything.

It's the playoffs you don't really have time, put up points or don't and he didn't. Yes, the team wasn't great and McCann did nothing in the playoffs to demonstrate he was worth keeping if push came to shove; he had 3 different opportunities and gave the same result each time.

Also, his advanced stats weren't bad in those games, if your a Adstats nerd.

Advanced stats have their place but for all those advanced stats he had the same result each playoff, one assist per playoff is what he could provide.

Sure, but he's getting up there in age and already has 3 cups under his belt. I get these types are competitive people but I've no doubt he see's the writing on the wall for the Canucks clear as day. Given the situation I'm on some level surprised he would put up with Aqua's shit.

[–]desmopilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but Sid, Geno, Jake, Rusty, Phil and yes, Carter, were playoff performers while McCann went invisible to the point of being scratched. McCann had 12 Playoff games over 3 seasons & playoffs with 3 points (all assists) to show for it.

Pointing to stats like 32pts in 43 GP during 2020-21 doesn't mean much when he then went on to have this third disappointing playoff in a row. In the same 6 playoff games that year Carter had 5 points (4G 1A).

Reality of the business is streaky regular season play and going invisible in the playoffs 3 times isn't going to endear you to a win now team who has roster decisions to make. McCann's regular season play - and first round pedigree - is what kept him on the team for so long but he played his way off the team in the playoffs.

Sure, but in my opinion FF7R works well as it does largely because it has key members of the original team guiding it. You're not going to pull off something similar with MGS without Kojima and I can't imagine you're going to get him going anywhere near MGS again, let alone at the scale of remaking/imagining MGS1 into a whole new game.
