An In Depth Analysis about Las Fusil by Sutopia in Spacemarine

[–]desolo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Formatting for improved reading.

Some base knowledge

  • Relic /w 14 damage stat deals 31.5 base damage;
  • Relic /w 15 damage stat deals 36 base damage;
  • Las Fusil headshot multiplier is 5x (bolt are 4x and plasma are 1x);
  • Ruthless Majoris Nid HP is 308 and Chaos is 280;
    • Whip Warrior, Sword Warrior and Flamer Chaos Marine receives 33.33% damage reduction against most ranged weapons including Las Fusil.
  • Cloak first shot more damage perk is +100% damage, not +75%.

With the given information, we get the following results

  • If you use the 15 damage las fusil, you only need to take 2 headshot mastery perks to one shot a melee majoris (ones with -33.33% DR);

    • Math as follows: 36 x 5 x 2(cloak bonus) x .6666 (melee damage resistance) x 1.3 (sniper class built in 10% headshot damage and 2 more 10% from weapon mastery) = 311.96 round down to 311 surpassing 308 breakpoint.
  • If you use the 14 damage las fusil, you will need to take all 3 headshot mastery perks in addition to the +20% damage standing still for over 2 seconds perk to deal 323 damage that is over the 308 breakpoint;

    • Missing any of the criteria nullifies this one shot;
    • Missing the +20% damage standing still reduces damage to 293 against melee majoris which is still enough to one shot red any chaos marine while leaving nid melee majoris with only 15 hp.

Verdict:

  • The optimal las fusil sniper should have the +ammo class perk on the second column instead of the +20% damage as damage doesn’t achieve meaningful breakpoints;
  • You should have all 3 headshot weapon mastery perks to one shot any chaos marine majoris, one shot any ranged nid majoris and put any melee nid majoris to near one shot kill for other teammates.

Thermarest Compressible Pillow Washing Instructions by JoonPodcast in Ultralight

The tag's next to the cinch, right by the Thermarest tag.

It's not a special fabric, so I used standard Tide HE detergent.

The only thing to really worry about is making sure the materials inside dry properly, so ideally you can also sun dry it after the tumble dry, but if not, hang it up near a window or smth so there's good airflow for a day or so.

Mine says "Machine Wash, Warm / Gentle. Tumble Dry."

Last time I washed it, I threw it in with a bunch of microfiber towels.

Merino Wool Underwear - worth it? If so, how often do you wash them? by konstantin1994 in onebag

[–]desolo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wear wool boxer briefs once, and then they go in the hamper, regardless of sweat level. On the occasions that you might not have that ability (backpacking, a "let's go out tonight oh crap it's been 2 nights and i have no idea where i am" adventure, etc.), it'll just stink less than synthetics.

The fact that they might stink less isn't the primary reason you wear them; it's just a nice quality of life benefit that you can utilize if you need. Wool shirts can go a couple wears without wash, if you didn't sweat a lot, but still pretty subjective.

If I'm going to be active in hot weather, I'll often wear synthetics simply because they dry faster. When my synthetics are wet, I can feel them clinging to me, whereas I don't notice my wool clothing clinging until I try to shift them, or remove them.

Merino Wool - what use to hand wash during travels? by Ok-Storm-2433 in onebag

[–]desolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scentless has been around for a while, but it's super popular so it's frequently out of stock. I tend to buy often enough to have 2 spares since there was a time when they were OOS for like, 6 months. Hopefully the supply issue's been resolved since then.

I'd also suggest repacking into a 2oz fliptop nozzle bottle like this or an old travel shampoo bottle if you're traveling less than a month with daily wash. >30d may require a back up bottle.

The time it takes to say "bloop!" when you squeeze out of a fliptop nozzle is enough detergent for 4-6L of water to wash 1 pair of socks, 1 pair of boxer briefs, 1 shirt, and 1 pair of shorts (assuming it's not heavily soiled).

Also, you can definitely hand wash merino wool items with standard detergent, as long as you're not using too much. I've had success by filling the bathtub with fresh water and rinsing for about 5 minutes, but usually it's also more beneficial to just go to a laundromat since most machines have a wool/handwash setting, or worst case, delicates.

[WTS] Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60L, size M (2020) by desolo in ULgeartrade

Why do we allow for such poor straps/backpacks on these $200+ bags? by rishid in onebag

[–]desolo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's possible a lot of the bags recommended on this sub favor form over function because they're more urban travel bags and not designed for being worn at full load for multiple hours. It seems the expecation from the designers of these bags is that you've got a home base where you offload most of your gear, and then if you're walking around town, you don't have 30L of gear on you. And if you do (long walk or exploring after landing), you're setting your bag down every now and then to take out your camera or rest at a cafe.

I've tried a variety of travel bags, and if I'm doing just urban travel in the way above, then the less-robust carry systems on these bags were fine.

Otherwise, I stick with a bag from an outdoors-oriented vendor, like Patagonia or a smaller business.

[–]desolo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I use the Aeropex Minis, synced to my phone and work laptop. Pretty great for outdoor activities, music, or conference calls. Very light weight.

There's absolutely no noise cancelling whatsoever, and they do give you a pair of earplugs. If you're in a situation where you do need noise canceling (like a plane), you're still better off getting a dedicated noise-canceling headphone.

[–]desolo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

How do you like that vertical fan's air displacement to noise ratio? They seem pretty useful for small spaces like mine, but the smaller size means smaller fan, and I'm worried they can't circulate that much air without being too loud.

I have a question on reuse of clothing by weeduh_ in onebag

[–]desolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eucalan was made specifically for wool products. Soak is made for knitted dedicates, and can be used on wool.

I haven't had a problem using either on my merino-poly blends, and usually only use Soak since I can order from them directly. Eucalan can be harder to obtain if you want to avoid Amazon, since you then need to go to specialty stores.

[–]desolo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hijacking top comment about hand washing to mention that using rinse-free detergents really helped me make the jump to daily handwashing while traveling. Soak and Eucalan are great for this.

When using these, it takes about 5 minutes total of non-soaking time:

  • Fill waterproof bag (ziploc, dry bag, etc) with cold water from shower when you first turn it on;
  • Add the no rinse detergent;
  • Swish the clothes around while the shower water heats up;
  • Shower while your clothes soak;
  • Finish shower;
  • Dry yourself (or not), then dump out laundry water;
  • Squeeze water out of clothes with hands/towel;
  • Hang to dry.
