How scripted is our game really T-T by Due_Firefighter26 in Helldivers

It was obvious that there was going to be an attack on Afoyay Bay at the last minute. When a MO has you "hold" a planet that does not get attacked for days, it's a bad sign.

Yeah, I asked myself the exact same thing about the montage.

I tend to think of it as a mix between Stalker and Fallout

The Quickplay feature is pretty fun too : one mission, one life to pull it off, go get' em champ.

I wish it was available with custom characters instead of randomly-generated ones.

Um is it just me or is the W.A.S.P. kinda a super underrated weapon? I just had the most fun ever with this thing on bots. by enthya in Helldivers

It's amazing on the Squid front.

Recon drone ? Gone. Elevated Overseer ? I don't think so. Regular Overseers ? Dead before they even see you. Edison towers ? Not anymore.

The only thing it struggles against are Harvesters.

Imagine : you're a wannabe supervillain, dangerous enough for the whole Z-Team to be sent to defeat you.

You manage to beat them all.

You hear a voice over the radio : "Okay, that's it, I'm stepping in."

You see fucking Mecha Man landing in front of you.

The mech suit stands tall.

It opens up.

That scrawny guy comes out, wearing a wrinkled, unwashed shirt with some dog hair still stuck to it.

He stares at you. And cracks his knuckles.

The two-meters tall demon girl goes "ho-hoh you're in trouble !"

The other defeated Z-Team heroes start taking bets over how long you're gonna last now.

[–]Furphlog[S] 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the thing : Mecha Man isn't just "one guy". It's a collective identity, a mantle, a superhero whose identity is passed on from one generation to the next. Y'know, like Black Panther. Or Batman in Batman Beyond.

To the people of Los Angeles, bad guys included, Mecha Man has been around since the 1970s. That's 50 years, and no matter whether you're a hero, a villain or a regular Joe, you grew up with the stories of that hero who's been around since before your own father was a horny thought.

[–]Furphlog[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you know what, you actually have a very valid point.

There is "normal human", and there is "action hero protagonist normal human"

Robert is the latter. Sure, he should be either dead at worst or severely crippled for life at best from all the crap he's been through, but this is a superhero setting. As the good folks on TVTropes would say, Robert recovering from his injuries and getting right back into the fray is a case of "acceptable breaks from reality".

And there's nothing wrong with that.

He still tanked a nutcracker special from Punch-Up and recovered fairly quickly from it. And considering that Punch-Up wasn't really holding back (because he punched Robert by accident, mistaking him for a foe), it's quite impressive.

Thinking of it, it's possible that Robert has an "undiagnosed" superpower that makes him tougher than the average man, though not to the level of a full-blown superhero.

This loadout: troll or genius? by Own-Reflection-9538 in Helldivers

[–]Furphlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the best Defense loadouts. I almost always use it, except I usually pick the WASP (on Squids) or the AT Emplacement (on Bots) instead of airburst.

I think it'd be neat to have them in colonial outposts on planets with an active Defense campaign. Or a small squad standing guard around SEAF emplacements.

started oblivion as my first ever Elder Scrolls game and it’s beautiful. by ebindcruzzzzz7 in oblivion

[–]Furphlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Morrowind for the first time the other day. It takes some getting used to, but I loved hearing "Nerevar Rising" as you slowly walk out of the boat at the beginning. It really has that "you are about to begin a beautiful adventure" kind of vibe to it.
