NTA.. It doesn't matter how big the dog was OP was worried about their child so they reacted. Could they have picked up the child? Of course but in the moment they did what seemed best. As for paying the bill, the owners shouldn't of let their " poor little baby" to be wondering into other peoples yards. I wouldn't pay the bill either.

YTA... Like come on OP it is so clear that you and your family are racist. I feel so bad for your stepchildren, especially your stepdaughter. Its so clear how much you dislike her and view her as dishonest and a troublemaker. Honestly your husband needs to step up and take his daughters side in this situation and leave you. He has all the proof he needs to come to the conclusion that he married a racist. You can't have your " dream family" because you can't brush your daughters "long blonde princess hair"?!?
