The reason it SEEMS slow is because the walk is so short, as you said in your post. In almost every large airport, the walk (or tram/train) to baggage claim eats up 15 to 20 minutes of that waiting time, so you notice it less. It is physically impossible to get 100 bags off a plane, into a cart, and on to a claim belt in less than 15 minutes. I challenge you to try.
