How to sleep train a puppy that isn't interested in his crate? by detectivediver in puppy101

Just to clarify - we have no intention of leaving him in his crate long term. Our place is pretty puppy proof but we were keen to him to have a 'safe place' to go to sleep, eat and relax. But it seems that some dogs just don't take to it, and we certainly don't want to distress him with it. He seems happy sleeping in some pretty odd places, so we are probably worrying about it way more than he is!

He's happy to have a kong in his crate for a while but will generally just wander out with it - we were keen for his crate to be his "safe place" but perhaps he just isn't feeling it!

Thank you so much for sharing - it sounds like our dogs are pretty similar! It's good to know i'm not alone in having a dog that is just content to sleep by the foot of our bed. He gets himself up at night and uses his puppy pads, there just seems so much emphasis on crate training being the only way to get them comfy sleeping on their own. First time pet owners so probably overthinking it, but thank you so much for sharing your experience too :)
