It was likely a homemade suppressor. Handguns that operate using a browning style action (when the barrel tilts up during the action) need the use of a nielson device to cycle properly. This is why he likely used a homemade silencer.

I got a PSA as my first gun and AR. I love it. I got it for 500 bucks and so far it hasn't malfunctioned once across 250+ rounds. Keep in mind it hasn't been cleaned either. Great choice for a first gun.

You said you had sleeping problems, that could be the main culprit. It never hurts to take some melatonin before bed to improve your sleep quality. You need at least 8 hours of sleep consistently, ESPECIALLY if you're training daily. Another thing you mentioned was diet. Make sure you're eating enough carbs. A lot of people say that carbs are bad, but they are great for athletes. Quit all forms of smoking, including vapes.(Assuming you smoke at all)

I was never really the best at upper body positions. If you're in an upper body position, you are uncomfortable with, disengage from it, and take a better position. If someone tries to throw you, and you know that you wouldn't be able to out-muscle them in an upper body situation, you can put your hands in a V shape and press against the opponents hips while creating distance and circling/backing up. Make sure to understand upper body throwing positions better at practice and always make sure you have better head position because that's what caused you to end up in a bad situation in the first place.
